Customer Reviews:

Good price for a DDR3. [Posted on 2008-04-21]
Most systems would detect this memory as a DDR3 - 1066MHz, with latency of 7-7-7-20.

Advice: most of the motherboards by default sets the voltage to 1.5V, this memory needs 1.7v. At 1066MHz it worked ok at 1.5V, but then I manually moved the FSB of the system so the memory would work at 1333MHz the system did not pass the POST. After changing the voltage it work perfectly at 1333MHz.

Now I am using it at 9-9-9-24 CR1 1333MHz with no problems. The bandwidth is similar to a very low latency DDR2 @ 667MHz, medium DDR2 @ 800MHz or a normal DDR2 @ 1066MHz.

Latency is about 69ns and bandwidth of 7100MBs. Numbers from Everest read test. (6800MB @ 1066MHz, 7100 @ 1333MHz CR2, 7300 @ 1333MHz CR1).

So, what is the catch? I went for DDR3 because I was building a system that would last me for a long time, that could support the new processors and new memory, so I decided to bought a ASUS P5E3 Deluxe MoBo. This one needs DDR3, but I was not willing to pay $400 for the memory so I found this one at $110. Good DDR2 was around $85 at the time, so a $25 diference was not bad.

It works as stated by the manufacturer, a little bit confussing because it seems as a 1066MHz memory that can be OC to 1333MHz.

After a week of having them stable I changed the timing to: 9-7-7-23CR2 @1333MHz, new Everest value is 7596MB/s. For now all is working ok, will try a longer Prime95 stress this weekend.

June 9: system passed the Prime95 stress and went for a more agressive timing. Now it is 9-7-7-20CR1 @ 1333MHz.

DDR3 memory? [Posted on 2008-06-21]
This chip wasn't what I wanted! It is almost DDR3! One of the stated benefits of DDR3 was a lower voltage so that they ran cooler. This chip didn't have this lower voltage! I also read a lot of reviews that said this chip was hard to configure right. The one that you want is: TWIN3X2048-1333C9DHX G! I now have these and everything runs great! Make sure that you get the DHX version. They aren't as fast as some, but the price is right.
