Customer Reviews:

Not enough power for external HDD drives [Posted on 2007-05-12]
Would not power my 160GB WD external drive, even when this card is powered via the PS2 port on my 3yr old Dell notebook. Is it the card? is it the notebook? I don't know, but I know this item is sitting around un-used, along with my 160GB hard drive. I'd suggest a) going with a better solution, whatever that may be and 2) return the device asap if it does work!

PC Card  [Posted on 2007-06-10]
The card did not work with Windows XP SP2. I returned the card and have not heard back nor received a refund.

It works. [Posted on 2007-10-18]
This worked perfectly on my Inspiron 4100. However, it's not that sturdy. And, because of how far it sticks out of the side of the laptop, it's easy to put pressure on it and break it, especially if you like to use your laptop on your lap instead of on a table or desk.

No problems here [Posted on 2008-05-16]
Got this to add some 2.0 ports to my old X30 laptop, which had only 1.1. Plugged the card in and it worked, with 2.0 drivers - at least this is what the system claims, I have not done bandwidth transfer tests.

Having read reviews here, I am aware of the power issue, so had no expectations there. There is no power supply, just some cable with a strange connector that I will throw out.

I cannot testify as to its ruggedness as I have used it only 1/2 hour so far. No issue detecting any devices yet; will edit this review if I find any.

If you have to load the driver (I did not) check the system box which shows up when you first connect the device - it will tell you if you have, e.g., the VIA chipset, and make the download less guesswork. But again, I did not have to download any drivers to get it to work.

Ok so far [Posted on 2008-06-28]
I was tired of the USB 2.0 messages when I upgraded to Windows XP. I use a usb adapter for Internet. No issue recognizing the card on my old Dell Latitude laptop.

I will still use my old USB ports for my mini hard drives, as I'm too lazy to plug in for power. I read in many reviews/descriptions that the power cable plugs into ps/2, however mine plugs into another usb for power.
