Not for Macs with HP printers at least [Posted on 2006-10-17] Even with the suggested Gimp-Print drivers loaded, and tried with three different parallel-based HP printers, the printers refused to print. In the Mac's Printer Setup Utility, it sees the cable circuitry, not the printer, to start the confusion. Then you pair a Gimp-Print printer-driver to that and hope for the best. Keyspan's tech support said to use ethernet or a jet-direct card instead. If I had those options I wouldn't have tried this non-working cable! Not ready for Mac prime-time, but this was the only parallel/USB printer cable that I could find that said it worked with the Mac. Keyspan's website is unhelpful and the "Printer Configuration Utility" noted on the cable's documentation has been withdrawn. Beware.
Works as Advertised [Posted on 2006-10-29] I have an old (1995 model)HP 4mp laser jet printer. I turned off the power hooked up the parallel connection, turned on the power, plugged the USB connection into the Mac-- plug and play worked beautifully. No other software or down loaders were necessary. Printing effortlessly now.
Just What I Needed [Posted on 2007-09-26] I have an iMac that runs Mac OSX Tiger and an Epson Stylus 600. I crossed my fingers and hoped that this would work. It did! I just hooked up my printer, turned it on, and then clicked on print & fax in system preferences to add my printer. It could not have been easier. I'm so happy that I don't have to buy a new printer.
Parallel printer adapter [Posted on 2007-12-12] Cable provided a link between parallel printer port and iMac USB port. Cable does interfere with Leopard OS X regarding putting the computer into sleep mode
Keyspan USB Parallel Printer Adapter [Posted on 2008-03-15] The Positive: It does the job, connecting an Apple eMac to an HP LaserJet 4 and providing basic printer functions.
The Negative: USB to Parallel compatible printer driver software had to be downloaded, Gutenprint for Mac OS X, to enable printing.
Overall, this is a good purchase, and provides a reliable solution to my printing needs!
