Best and easiest to use [Posted on 2008-01-09] This is the best thermostat for the money. It's very easy to program and simple to use. I had one for several years until it needed to be replaced. The electrician replaced the Robertshaw 9600 with another thermostat that was difficult to use and only lasted one year. I ordered another Robertshaw 9600 and I'm very happy with it!
Heating control is not accurate. Weekend schedule is not really adjustable. [Posted on 2008-01-14] Heating control is not accurate. It turns heating off at about +3 degree even though I set accuracy to +/-1. I guess the problem is the temporature sensor is not very sensitive. Weekend schedule is not really adjustable. It just drops off two middle schedules of your weekday schedule. I replaced it with Honeywell RTH230B. RTH230B is in the same price range as Robertsaw 9600 and overcomes the two problems above.
Simple and Easy to Use [Posted on 2008-02-01] This thermostat was installed in my new construction home in April, 2006. It is very easy to understand and change settings. I like to keep the 2 degree temperature drop setting in the winter, which reduces furnace start ups. I compared the room temperature setting with a thermometer and found the settings to be accurate. I use both the manual and programmable mode.
The one drawback that is not detailed in the manual is: When in the programmable mode, if you change the thermostat up or down a degree between program change times during the normal day, there is a preset set back at 3 hours and 59 minutes. Meaning, if your next program setting is more than the set back time, the previous programmable setting is retrieved after 3 hours and 59 minutes. And then changes to the next scheduled set program as set in the program mode memory - So, if your next program is more than 4 hours, it will set back automatically to the last setting with the hidden set back feature. Originally, I thought there was a malfunction.
Apparently, this set back feature is preset, thinking the consumer may create a higher or lower setting, forget about it, and seen as a convenience - It drove me crazy. I did not time it until I spoke to a second person at the company. The first time I called the company, I was told I might have an electrical feedback problem with the furnace (causing me to loose my raise in temperature in the program mode) - Less than helpful customer service not knowing their product. Since the thermostat was under warranty, a new one was sent to me for free. It was very easy to replace.
The same set back occurred - I called and spoke to someone else and was told this is a common feature on all of their thermostats. Sure enough, the other models booklet had the information - The better models have an override function - I just change to the manual setting now if I want to keep one constant temperature. At night (when in the program mode) I remember to set the thermostat up around 6:00 p.m., because my next program is at 9:30. (I miss the set back feature by 29 minutes). NOTE: In the manual mode, there is not the preset set back hidden feature and your set temperature is constant.
Hope this helps. j
