Not the Acrobat you know and love [Posted on 2007-02-17] I've used the past few versions of Acrobat and this one is a disappointment. Navigation is a pain. Instead of the familiar window and arrows at the bottom of a page Adobe's engineers have moved navigation to the top of the page and have only a single arrow. The whole look and feel is most unMac-like, more like a windows application. I suppose if I wanted to take the time and energy to study the user manual I would find the application friendlier but I don't expect to have to re-learn to use an application when I upgrade. If you're thinking of upgrading, my advice is don't.
finally something for average users [Posted on 2007-05-16] PLUS: Finally, Adobe managed to fix all bugs - I am still mad when I remember how I paid the upgrade from v4 to v5 only to discover the OCR was removed from v5 because Adobe was too lazy to fix it. Now in v8 there are all important features for normal users like myself:
- the OCR finally works; even on a normal G4; and it is (surprisingly) fast
- web capture can handle PNG files
MINUS:
-The price is quite high, the upgrade alone was $140- if I hadn't registered my previous software I am not sure I'd pay the full price.
-It took years to get to a working Mac version.
-Adobe's software updater - who needs it?
