Perfect Solution for Preventing Non-Designers from Breaking a Website! [Posted on 2007-04-22]
If you design website with Dreamweaver (works with non-Dreamweaver sites, but without Dreamweaver's integrated templates capability that locks portions of the page) that others will need to edit...AND you don't want them to break it, then Contribute is the product for you!

Allows you set user permissions that control what a user can edit, how they can edit a page, how they (and if they) can add images, whether they can publish or their draft needs reviewed, and saves rollback copies so any damage can be undone!

The user interface is easy and user-friendly - the user browses the site they wish to edit (and have permission to do so) and then edits the page. Simple.

This works best for the editor of a site created and maintained by Dreamweaver. And, it will make every Dreamweaver designer happier, healthier, and allow for the opportunity to spend your time making money designing a new site as opposed to the drudgery of continually editing an old site.

This is a great solution for non-profit clients who want to be able to update at will, but have too small a budget to afford a full web application design or can't afford to pay a web designer to continually make changes and updates to the content.

I have used Contribute on a PC in an earlier version before switching to a Mac system. In fact, I used it to build my entire website! Contribute CS3 on the Mac platform is simpler to use than the other PC version. It offers a quick and easy way to connect and update your website on the fly. The initial set up is simple with step by step guides to assure you have the connection to your site's server. Once the set up is done, it is a matter of doing a quick edit on a page of an existing site, making a new page by using an existing page as a template, or even building your site using a pre designed template within the program. I find this product saves me time and allows me to remain my own site administrator despite very limited knowledge of coding.
The best part is not having to rely on another person to keep the site current. I am a painter who uses my site as a virtual gallery so this is important.
One of the most useful features allows you to send a draft of a new or changed page to yourself or others via email to allow for feedback. Since images look different on different monitors, browsers and different platforms (Mac vs PC) this is quite important.
Adobe builds excellent products and CS3 works quite well in conjunction with Adobe's Creative Suite Design Premium CS3.

I had a website prepared for me because I didn't have either the time or the inclinatioin to learn how to develop my own sit. When I wanted to make changes to the site I discovered that the web designer would have to make all the changes I needed to have done. This would not work. When I needed to have a change made I needed done quickley. When I changed web designers the new one told me he could set up the site and I could make changes using contribute. I placed an order for contribute and true to his word the program is piece of cake. I love it. This program is so simple you don't need a book for instructions. If you are like me, one with little knowledge of the web, but have a site that you want to maintain and make changes yourself, be sure to have it designed so that it can be edited with Contribute, you'll be glad you did.
