No competition; but flawed [Posted on 2008-10-31]
Since there really is no competition, and the basic functionality of the suite is solid, you do need to buy this as a graphics or marketing professional. But if there was a free alternative, like OpenOffice is to MS Office, I'd install it in a second on one of my machines. The activation of the CS suite is an annoyance. Moving to a new machine is a pain if you don't do things just right. Upgrades have been fairly painless, but sometimes result in new bugs introduced. Thankfully this seems to be limited to the Windows version (e.g. inDesign 'freezing' when using the Place command because of a window positioning bug). I'm surprised that the Mac version seems slower or less responsive than the Windows version (I use both on my MacBook using OS 10.5 and Boot Camp-ed Windows XP Pro).
