Great Idea with a couple of glitches [Posted on 2007-12-23] This is a workable unit but I have a couple of issues that are less than satisfactory. First is that when you are doing two copies of the same lightscribe project in 'best' quality, the top drive still prints in 'normal' quality. you can see the little lines in the printing while on the disc printed in the second drive you can't see lines. I also don't like that I have to print my disc image to my computer before I can burn two copies at a time. I also wish this were a standalone unit. Lightscribe also takes a lot more time than I expected. The things it does well? It writes DVD data discs so much more quickly than any drive I've ever owned. It also allows to do one disc as a CD or DVD and the other a lightscribe simutaneously.
Capable, but Convoluted Operating System [Posted on 2008-05-10] I got this unit which promises to easily make 2 copies of a CD or DVD. However, instead of a straighforward listing of both drives (to be checked off) when making copies, the system requires some sort of quirky designation procedure for the second drive, E.g.,It's not as simple as selecting A and or B. Other than that, the component works as described and the company's return policy is no hassle.
Really Nice DVD Duplicator [Posted on 2008-06-06] I work as a professional videoographer and editor. I bought this to be able to make multiple dubs for delivered projects. The unit seems reliable after 1 month. The lightscribe feature is really why I bought this model. It is so nice to have silk screen quality on DVD's for the final project. Your final presentation of a product is just as important as the quality of the content. There's something nice about the lightscribe label that just appears more professional than thermal or printable labels. Each lightscribe burn takes 20 minutes for two copies on this unit, which is a little slow but worth it when completed. I'm using this with an older desktop strictly as a dubbing machine. It's 1.2 GHz with 256 Ram running XP. The supplied software seems to conflict with the resident portion of my Virus software. You have to wait until the virus software loads and updates before using. This happens on both my xp macines and Vista. Otherwise you get errors. The supplied software is called droppix. Overall this is a nice duplicator. I paid $89.00 factory refurbished. Several nice features about the unit is that the box is robust and includes a fan with the power supply.
