Great quality [Posted on 2007-12-26] I'm confused about two things: 1.Ratings of less than 4 stars for these speakers and 2. Ratings of more than 3 stars for the Logitech Z2300.
My first choice for new computer speakers was the Logitech, based on good reviews and price. They were back in the box in less than fifteen minutes.
If you're interested in very loud bassy speakers to watch movies or game the z2300 may be for you. If you, like me, also listen to a very wide variety of music, interested in hearing every note from every instrument and you prefer to hear Diana Krall, Stevie Wonder and Elton John as if they were standing right there in the room with you, then you must get these speakers. What was I thinking, choosing to buy quality audio from an excellent mouse/webcam manufacturer? Altec Lansing has given the words "crisp" , "clear" and "detailed accuracy" new meaning for computer speakers (which I am actually using as a 2.1 home theatre speaker system in my apartment living room). I don't doubt the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 may match it (given Klipsch's track record) but the reviews clearly indicate the poor manufacturing issues of this model. The only change, I would like is a slightly, just slightly louder sub with a slightly, just slightly lower frequency response, but even without these changes I consider these speakers very highly recommended.
Altec Lansing's customer service is pathetic [Posted on 2007-12-30] I purchased a set of these speakers after carefull consideration for my girlfriend. The controller for the volume both remote and hard wired lasted all of one day before failing. I promptly contacted Altec Lansing and they promised to send me replacement parts. After waiting for over two weeks I called them, only to find out they had not bothered to ship the part out. The agent told me he would try to ship it out overnight, which didn't happen. It is apparent that this is a company that has no consideration for their customers, so if this sounds like a good company to deal with then I encourage you to buy their faulty product.
Worth the Price [Posted on 2008-01-02] I was a bit nervous about this purchase because of the mixed reviews on this site, but I did the research and decided to go for it. I'm glad I did. The Altec Lansing FX6021 is not a perfect system but it performs quite well and is definitely worth the asking price. (I paid $150 at Amazon.)
We purchased this product as a speaker system for our wide-screen TV (Vizio 42-inch LCD) and as a means of listening to our extensive library of iTune songs on our Mac PowerBook. I give it 5 stars for the job it does with the audio coming from the TV and DVDs, and 4 stars for the music library.
I'm especially pleased with the bass response. (I certainly disgree with those reviewers who found fault with it. I think it's the 6021's best feature!) The low end is punchy and well defined. (For what it's worth, I own a recording studio. I routinely work with high-end speakers, and I have high expectations and fairly discerning ears.) The low frequency instruments, hits, and rumbles present in many movie sound tracks come through the sub and hit you solidly in the chest. If you added some noisy, popcorn-munching folks, you'd think you were in a theater. Those who are unhappy with the bass response might want to experiment with moving the sub-woofer. Proximity to a wall can make a ton of difference.
The high end is a bit too bright on some mixes for my taste and the mid to mid-lows are not as present as they should be, but I think the overall sound compares favorably with systems costing much more. I have no trouble recommending it.
Setup was quick, easy, and intuitive. If you're nervous, just follow the included directions. As a side note, I was pleased that the speaker cables were extra long, so you have more flexibility with speaker placement, and a mini-jack cord was included. We were able to connect the speakers to our Airport Express without making an extra trip to Radio Shack.
WOW! WOW! WOOOOOOOW~!!!! [Posted on 2008-03-01] By far the BEST 2.1 Speaker system out there PERIOD! Dont be fooled by others this system rocks. Purchase it refurbished on Amazon for $175!!! Got it and I did the simple install, turned on my computer and played my favorite cd and I was blown away! I dont regret buying this little baby, not one bit and at this price you cant get any better.
For those that are looking for a great multimedia speaker system that is versatile and you can set it up in different ways YOU CANT GO WRONG! BUY IT NOW! You'll be very pleased I know I am!
Top sound quality [Posted on 2008-09-24] These babies replaced my Full deck 2 column, 3 way pioneer set. Supposedly computer speakers, they do far better.
But one thing is very important - if you just plug them in, and listen to them straight away, you may be mistaken that sound has a canned feeling or low quality. You need to adjust the equalizer in your set or playback software to get stunning sound quality. its because these babies dont have equalizers on themselves. Once i set winamp's equalizers to what style i like, i forgot about any other audio set i had.
These speakers ARE quality sound. Just put some Bach, Vivaldi on them and get stunned. Modern pieces, pop, rock, they sound also great on this.
Buy it without hesitation. You wont regret it.
