Reunion album finds group chemistry still intact [Posted on 2002-05-22]
Reuniting Terry McBride, Ray Herndon and Billy Thomas, this disc presents the first new tracks from the band's original lineup since 1993's "Hurry Sundown." The three-part harmonies (bringing to mind Alabama, among others) are as tight as ever, and newly penned original songs provide all but three of the album's ten tracks. (And their honky-tonk cover of "Squeeze Box" is original enough to pass amongst those too young to remember the Who's 1975 original).

Like a few other mainstream artists, McBride & The Ride rise above the studio sameness of Nashville's session-based productions. Ironically, Herndon and Thomas make their non-Ride living as studio players, but when they're united with McBride, they create music with a distinct personality. It's a commercial sound, but one whose radio-friendliness is born of the players musical leanings, rather than the circumscription of a cookie-cutter.

The band member's backgrounds, including time spend with rootsy stylists like Rosie Flores, Lyle Lovett, Delbert McClinton, Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris, combine with hit songwriting instincts (McBride's work for Brooks & Dunn has yielded three chart-toppers alone), to produce contemporary country with artistic depth. It's the same balance that has served Clint Black, Martina McBride and others.

With the original trio having disbanded at the height of their success, fans were left longing for new releases. Whether or not McBride & The Ride return to serving an on-going concern, their reunion LP finds their artistry and chemistry intact.

3-1/2 stars, if Amazon allowed fractional ratings.

A big WELCOME back, Terry.... [Posted on 2002-06-11]
I had no idea Terry MrBride was back and ready for The Ride! When I listen to ANY song, I listen to the whole Enchilada. Meaning: Vocal quality(s), over-all sound, and arrangement. McBride and the Ride have hit on something BIG, with Amarillo Sky!! Why? Every song is different, no two songs sound alike. And, should you buy this CD, I dare you not to listen to: "Why Not Colorado" & "When Somebody Loves You" more then once. Way to go Terry!!

Amarillo Sky--- in a word? PERFECT! [Posted on 2002-06-15]
Just had to write a review of the new McBride and the Ride album! As a long-time fan of their incredible harmonies and song-writing abilities, I was anxious to purchase this album and see if the chemistry is still there! Do not be fooled by a long absence in recording, these guys are meant to play together! The harmonies are as tight as ever, and the songs are fantastic! I agree with the other reviewers' choices of songs, but don't forget to check out "Yours!" This is a wonderful follow-up to their #1 hit, "Just One Night." Buy the album and definitely check them out live! Welcome back, Terry, Ray and Billy--we missed you!

This is the best McBride & The Ride album [Posted on 2002-07-07]
While I enjoy all the others just as much, I was very impressed with this album. It is amazing that these three men can be apart for so long and then just pick up where they left off. It seems as though they are having fun in every song and that kind of energy is very inspiring. My only complaint is that it needs a few mor tracks.

AWESOME! [Posted on 2002-12-14]
I was at Brooks and Dunn concert in Vegas on Dec. 11.....prior to the concert, this wonderful music was playing and it sounded like it was several cuts from an album. I went home and did an AMAZON search for the term "Amarillo Sky", as that is the one phrase I could remember. Luckily, this came up. It is as wonderful as I remember that nite. I knew Terry was friends with B&D and that they wrote together. I have their old albums, but this thing just blows me away. It is wonderful songwriting and excellent vocals. GREAT country music!!!!
