Word of Warning [Posted on 2008-06-24] This product works fine. Unlike some rechargers I have dealt with, the connection is solid and doesn't become loose with time. My only warning is that be careful that you do not accidentally step on the cord (which is a pretty good length) when you pick up the Kindle. Twice, I have done this and pulled the little wire out of the connection, forcing me to buy two replacements (so far).
Get an extra one... it is worth it! [Posted on 2008-07-11] At first I thought it was stupid to buy a second adaptor exactly like the first... but because I was taking my Kindle to work so I could read during lunch and on breaks (after forgetting to plug in my Kindle when going to sleep), I bought one to keep at work.
I love having an extra now! Took one on vacation... got home late and didn't have to dig through my suitcase to find that backup Kindle charger so I could read myself to sleep. Instead, just plugged the Kindle in to the charger I had left by my bed.
Now if Amazon would only come up with a car charger, I'd be set!
Amazon Replacement Power Adapter [Posted on 2008-07-21] I had the first power adapter that came with my Kindle but I wanted a seond one because I wanted my first one to be left at home permanently plugged into the wall outlet. I never had any problems with the adapter; it worked very well. I just wanted the 2nd one to travel with as I am often absent from my home. Both have worked very well.
It works [Posted on 2008-07-27] I needed an extra charger for my Kindle, and so purchased this one, which is a twin to the one that came with the Kindle in the first place. What can I say? It works, and it's convenient to be able to recharge the Kindle's batteries at the office as well as at home.
As original but it should have a better method of winding itself up for storage than just a twist [Posted on 2008-08-13] It is like original (a poorly designed) supplied cable.
This power adapter and the USB cord BOTH need a much better method to wind themselves up for storage. Amazon did not do us travelers any favors, by not have these two cords be better traveling companions. It would be very slick if they got redesigned to wind up for storage and had the ends overlap each other to make a very tidy and compact flat unit. If nothing else, the power adapter should have folding plug tips so that the metal plug does not scratch anything - for a good example of a quality power adapter design, check out the Apple unit (see link) Apple MA938LL/A 85-Watt Portable Power Adapter for MacBook Pro supplied with the MacBook Pro and note how the prongs can be removed and the cord stored around it...
Since this cord has generic ends, I suggest that you look elsewhere for a self winding charging system/cable; especially if this will be a "spare".
