Great phone for hearing imparied inividuals, but tone control no longer works [Posted on 2008-03-01]
I have severe hearing imparment and have used three of these phones in my home for over 5 years. I was experiencing significant challenges with phone conservations due to my hearing impariment. It's difficult finding a phone that is user friendly for those that wear hearing aids as well as for the rest of the family that has normal hearing. This phone allowed me to successfully use the phone again.
I have not had any problems with the phones until approximately a year ago. I'm finding that the clarity of the incoming call is no longer crystal clear. This could be due to the telephone provider (AT&T) because I often notice static or noise during the call, or to changes in my hearing. I'm going to switch to digital service that is provided by my cable company.
Also, approximately a year ago I noticed that on all three of my phones, when I adjust the tone the volume cuts out. That's a huge problems for me, and tone adjustment was one of the main reasons I purchased this phone in the first place.
At work I use the Hearsay Speech-Adjust-a-Tone in-line amplifier that attaches to any standard phone that has the keypad in the base. The quality of the sound is outstanding. I'm going to replace 2 of my Ameriphones with a standard phone and add the Speech-Adjust-a-Tone amplifier. Perhaps going with digital phone service will help as well.
Ameriphone XL50: Works Well, But Not a Cure for Deafness [Posted on 2008-04-07]
The Ameriphone does everything it is advertised to do, just don't expect it to be a cure for deafness. This phone was originally purchased through Ebay (bad, bad decision!). After I returned it, (a pain in the a$$), I shopped around and saw it on [...]. I have to say, I've always had decent, if not very good results from purchases through their website.
The phone was for my parents, both hearing impared. The phone helps; I seem to be able to have some improved communication with them. Basically, it amplifies what they hear. It can be turned up quite loud to the point where it could harm a normal persons hearing. The loudness can be turned on/off and adjusted accordingly. In addition, there is a control for tone; four different settings are available. The phone has large, illuminted numbers which I am sure is helpful, as well as a built-in lighted ringer that flases red when there is an incoming call.
The cost was a reasonable price to pay, considering that this product would potentially improve the quality of my parents lives. It has helped somewhat, maybe even just phycologically, but it is no cure for the deafness that beleaguers them.

This phone is the first phone my mother has been able to comfortably use for a couple of years. She is getting very deaf and has a lot of confusion with things. The quick dial buttons have made it possible for her to make calls, rather than just receive them. The only feature I would like to see added is an option to leave the amplification on all the time, instead of having to actuate it every time the phone is used. She often forgets to push the button and then has a hard time hearing. Overall, it is a great product and I am very satisfied.
Careless Refurbishment [Posted on 2008-05-13]
I took a chance by ordering a 'refurbished' version of the Clarity C4205 amplified wireless telephone for my mother. My expectations were that the phone would have been carefully inspected and refurbished by a knowledgeable agent of the manufacturer. The product was NOT refurbished.
The package arrived with the contents simply stuffed into the original box with none of the original packing. The warranty card--completed by the original purchaser--was thoughtfully included.
This model is supposed to have a memory capability for several numbers accessed through the keypad numbers and three emergency numbers dialed with the dedicated buttons above the normal number pad. This particular phone was defective in that it did not memorize any numbers.
Amazon now advises that they are unable to replace the phone because "Warehouse Deals' inventory is constantly changing".
It is very disappointing to so quickly reach a dead end for options to resolve this problem, but Amazon is allowing ME up to 30 days after the delivery date to return the phone for a refund. Amazon and Warehouse Deals should do everything they can to replace the defective phone.
Great Phone! [Posted on 2008-05-28]
This is our second purchase of this model phone. My Mother is 92 and can hear the grandchildren & greatgrandchildren with no problem. The clarity is great and volume adjustable at a touch. I highly recommend this phone for the older adult or hearing impaired.
