The perfect Computer [Posted on 2007-01-04] I used to use a PC, and still have a Dell laptop but once i got the imac, i was in love, and have never looked back. Its beautiful, easy to use, and boots up really quick, and never crashes. What more can you ask for. You plug in your printer, your camera, your ipod, and it just works! Amazing!
Disappointing [Posted on 2007-01-09] I bought this iMac after years of using PCs because I'd heard they now ran Windows-based applications and were more reliable than your average PC. My Mac has been very reliable but, other than that, it has been an expensive disappointment.
I loaded MS Office for Mac and tried to use Word and Powerpoint but both run significantly slower than on my PC. Powerpoint is so slow that I couldn't use it and so I have had to dust off my old PC and use it when I bring work home; kind of defeats the purpose of buying a new computer, doesn't it?
I went to the Apple store where I bought the Mac and told them of my problem; their response was I should have bought a more powerful iMac! When I told them they had initially told me this computer would suit my needs, they just shrugged. I think this is typical of the arrogance and poor customer service which I've encountered from Apple; they just don't get it.
Bottom line: I for one do not buy the hype over Apple products. They're all style and no substance. For the same price, I could have bought a much more powerful Windows-based machine. They may work for college students and poseurs but, if you work in the real world, guess what? The economy runs on Windows. Hence, if you're considering switching from a PC to a Mac, I would seriously advise against it.
Marketed on Rep Not on Product [Posted on 2007-05-02] This machine has a lot of bells and whistles but they don't always work nearly as well as advertised. The biggest problem I have with it is that it freezes and has to be restarted at least once every day and often 2-3 times daily. Apple used their reputation for building superior computers to sell a product that absolutely doesn't live up to its reputation. I wouldn't mind so much but for $1350 I expected a lot more. Next time I'll buy a Dell for $400. Even though they are as problematic, I will save $950.
not for professional graphic designers [Posted on 2007-12-06]
I had a G4 titanium laptop then "upgraded" to the iMac because they said it was fast and would run the Adobe CS stuff better -- not. I miss my laptop. The iMac gets hung up at least half the time when it does ANYTHING, even opening a folder takes 4 seconds. Shutting down the computer if you have a bunch of stuff open takes like 10 minutes. Multiple Adobe products do not like to be open at the same time on my computer - pretty much every day one will crash if another is open.
Vertical lines on display [Posted on 2008-07-27] After 2 years and 3 months two vertical lines appeared on the LCD. A quick search on Google tells me this is a common problem for iMac's from late 2005 early 2006. Called Apple and was told I would have to pay about for the repair. According to other people with the same problem complaining on several forums this repair costs about $700.
