Drek, drek, unfettered drek [Posted on 2002-03-01] This game is just one giant, horrible, nasty atrocity. It's a frustrating nightmare, from start to finish. The navigation system between areas is just plain annoying - you're on a horse, and you must ride down roads, paths, and such to get to the next area. The trouble is that there's no compass, and the perspective changes constantly, making it really difficult to remember where you've been and how you might get to the next area. The horse is quite slow as well, and there doesn't seem to be a way to skip to different areas quickly. Normally, I'm a huge fan of RPGs, but this one left me cold. I didn't finish this game - in fact, I quit after only 3 hours. That in itself is saying something. In addition to the navigation problems, there's the issue of the verbal clues - an NPC can go on and on, and there's no written log of what was said. Further, there are glitches within the games that disallow going into areas multiple times, historical inaccuracies, and not terribly great graphics. The voice of the knight is truly annoying, and the soundtrack is uninspired. My advice is to seek out another game.
Um, no [Posted on 2002-05-06] I was totally intrigued by the potential of this game. See semi-ancient Britain through the eyes of one of its inhabitants. But as soon as I started playing, I realized it was a waste. It was totally confusing, what can you pick up and use, what can't you? I was reduced to using the walkthrough via the dreamcatcher website which helped me through absolutely nothing. Playing as the Pagan (for lack of a better term) Bradwen, I got into the villa, and then 'found suvivors' but was stuck in this little room and I had no idea where said survivors were. I got sick of it after that, uninstalled it, and promptly returned it back to the store where I had purchased it. With my refund, I bought The Sims: Hot Date instead.
Great, if you like adventure games [Posted on 2002-10-05] This is a pretty good game if you like adventure games. The graphics are great, and the puzzles are anywhere between OK and very good. The only real complaint I have is that it is hard to open doors due to the character control mechanism. This makes this game harder than it should be, since you might have the right idea, but it often seems like there isn't any action associated to certain doors and gates. The way the camera moves and the scenes are cut is also confusing at times, making it somewhat difficult to figure out where you are. This game certainly has been under-rated by many computer games magazines. But be aware that only true fans of this genre will be happy with this game. I like it, especially for the price. I also purchased the sequel.
LOVE IT! But...... [Posted on 2003-02-24] A superb concept with a deep story and nice graphics. At last a heroic game without just slaughter, slaughter, slaughter... The problem is that many ideas listed in the previews (Like MORE women, evil choices, honour-codex, etc. etc.) haven't been fulfilled. Thus, if you don't make the right decision, you die. It was promised that there are MANY ways to complete Bradwen's quests, yet there is only one way. SAD, because this was a GREAT idea. I love the game because I'm a history-buff and because I'm sick of the football-games and the even more Action-Murder-games. This game has depth at least. I may not be flawless but it's a great effort.
Finally a game with more than action-crap! [Posted on 2004-02-08] I LOVE this game and it saddens me that it's so underappreciated. True, several of the promises in the previews weren't fulfilled but the story is deep, the graphics GORGEOUS (I've never seen a winter-landscape put to life more beautifully and it such stunning colours before) and the movement isn't as hard. Of course, as a knight you have to ride a horse! What were you thinking, that Bradwen would use a plane? It's a brilliant games for its history, amazing story and beautiful graphics!!!
