Customer Reviews:

Best Speakers in this catagory. Period. [Posted on 2008-06-23]
Yes, these speakers live up to all the raving reviews from reputable sources.
Don't be fooled by the marketing of these speakers as an ipod accessory. These are REAL speakers. I have never heard powered speakers aimed at the digital consumer market that sound this good. Combined with lossless compression and a decent sound card, they are perfect for my desktop. If you are looking for good sound for your PC on a limited budget, there is nothing that comes close to these things. Thats right, this is a bargain. The alternative is to get studio monitors, or start looking into an amp/receiver and passive speakers. Both of which will cost you a lot more money.

a really sweet sound! [Posted on 2008-09-03]
When ordering these little beauties, I was looking for a set of small speakers to put on my patio and take out to my dock. Really a nice sounding boombox if you will. As a music junkie who spends way too much on stereo stuff(15K for used stuff for the livingroom), I really appreciate great audio.....and I appreciate these "speaks". Reallyreally. Right now I have them attatched to my PC and am currently listening to Allison Kraus. Her Liquid sweet high voice is coming thru in spades. I would qualify the highs as sweet and liquid ...Very smooth...A slight criticism is that the low mids are slightly "muddy". A general criticism of MP3 Players is that thru compression and subsequent decompression with playback; is that tonal quality is slightly diminished. Fortunately, my Zune has an equalizer function which helps.....but the bottom line with these little speakers is that I do not hear the reduced quality in audio playback. I like them so much that my boys (who are no longer at home), are going to see these fine speakers underneath the Christmas tree...along with a zune/Ipod...It makes a nice stereo system without all the boxes. The boys at audio engine really obsessed over these speakers and boy, did they ever get these right....You will be delighted with the audio quality of these speakers....enjoy.

To be Heard To Be Believed [Posted on 2008-09-05]
Thanks to all the positive reviews, I went ahead and got the A5s factory-direct. Cannot say enough about the sound coming out of these smallish speakers, I'm beginning to re-think my "Made in China" preconceptions...very strong buy....

Watch Out or You'll be Hooked Too! [Posted on 2008-09-28]
Absolutely fantastic! I've connected these to my PS3 and use them for music, movies, and games. These are really the only speakers I've seen for less than $1000 that still let you feel like an audiophile. The only thing is, now my 128 and 192 kbps mp3 files aren't good enough. These little beauties really let you hear all the little digital compression found in these smaller file types. I've found myself buying more blu-ray movies and super audio discs to show them off to my friends and myself. My brother spent $550 on some studio-reference monitors and wishes he had come across these! Great for live jazz recordings (think Horace Silver and Wynton Marsalis).

Great speakers and Customer Service [Posted on 2008-09-30]
I bought a pair of the A5s two months ago, after reading the many rave reviews here. Alas, two nights ago, one of the speakers stopped working - at least the woofer did. I envisioned the usual nightmare of having to ship it somewhere for a repair.

I phoned AudioEngine's tech support line. I was surprised and gratified when the friendly fellow I spoke to told me they would ship a replacement speaker out to me immediately, and include a UPS label to send them the broken speaker at no cost to me. But he also suggested that I call the retailer who sold them to me - Westworld Computers in Vancouver, BC.

To my immense relief, I was told to bring the broken one into the store to receive an immediate replacement. I live a few blocks from Westworld.

The end of the story: I had a new speaker back in my livingroom within 15 minutes, working perfectly.

Although it was disappointing to have one break, this is the best customer service that I can imagine. That, on top of the speakers' sound quality, makes them an excellent buy!
