Unreliable wireless unit, keyboard input issues [Posted on 2007-05-02] It's junk. Don't buy it.
I haven't had the problem others have seen, where it switches between computers at random times. I've seen other failure modes:
1) The remote switch sometimes stops working, and will not recover until I unplug the video/USB/audio cables from the triangular main body of the unit. At a guess, it's getting power from one or the other of the USB connections and I'm power-cycling it by disconnecting and reconnecting the cables. I've been able to get the same effect by disconnecting both of the USB cables from the computers, but that's even less convenient.
2) I periodically lose keyboard input for a second or so. I'll be typing, and half a dozen characters will be lost. Then it rights itself. I'm using a PS/2 keyboard with a USB adapter, and I haven't tested that without the KVM, so it's possible that the KVM isn't the problem there.
Interesting idea, useless result [Posted on 2007-11-10] When you see this it seems like an interesting item, one less cable to deal with. However, this switch will switch on its own and sometimes it will not switch at all! The solution provided by Belkin? Disconnect the video, audio and usb from both computers and re-connect. Yes, it solves the problem, until it happens again, sometimes a few times a week. If I wanted to connect and disconnect cables from the back of the computers I would not need a KVM switch in the first place....
STAY AWAY from this like the plague [Posted on 2008-01-14] Unit will not function as intended. Worthless piece of hardware, adds zero value in helping you do your work more efficiently. KVM wireless remote will not switch screens unless you manually disconnect the video/audio portion to "reboot" it from time to time. Why sell a wireless KVM if it does not work properly?
RF Interference [Posted on 2008-02-19] I replaced a wired IOGear KVM with this Belkin wireless Flip. It has worked much better than the IOGear (They sent 2 which didn't work before I gave up on them).
I noticed others mentioning random switching and have something to add on that. Every day mine switches around lunch time and again around 4:30. When I look out my office window I see the same Red Hyundai Elantra drive out right before/after this happens. Every time.
This is a small parking lot but the driver obviously works in my building and always parks near enough to trigger. Imagine if you work next to a parking garage! I contacted Belkin via email - will post what happens...
I actually like this one [Posted on 2008-03-17] Stylish, easy to install and simple to use. For me it works exactly as advertised.
Unlike the other reviews here, I've had no problems with my Flip Wireless. (In fact, it actually fixes A LOT of the issues and complaints I had with the old Belkin Compact KVM units.)
For a home or home office, this unit does very well. You can install a handy little program on your Windows system to switch systems with your mouse or a hotkey. Here's a nifty little feature too: you can flip to another system but keep listening to the audio on whichever system you prefer! Without any extra wires or anything!
Others mention the unit switching repeatedly; I've not had that problem. If you're worried about this, get the Belkin Flip model that is not wireless. It has all the same features otherwise.
