Beautiful but flawed [Posted on 2005-04-04] Have been able to use mine for about 40 hours. After that it failed to respond to any input from any source. Contacted Benq and they said there was nothing they could do but send it in for repair since they have been having problems with these units. Sent it in and got it back. It worked once during a test preparation for a presentation but once again failed to acknowledge any input when turned on the next day during the actual presentation. Contacted Benq and they said I could have it repaired (wasn't repaired last time) or receive a refurbished unit (someone else's problem). So am working on my third round, maybe I'll be LUCKY this time. It will be my last Benq product. I can not recommend the product or company.
You are now warned! [Posted on 2005-04-23] Word of Warning. I purchased a BenQ projector and had it for a month before it started to fail and turn itself off. I sent it to BenQ for repair and have not recieved it back. That was over two months ago. I phone them every couple of days and get only lip service, they keep saying it is coming. So before you purchase a BenQ product think about the possibility of it getting repaired...or should I say never seeing it again.
You have been warned!
Good value for the price [Posted on 2005-07-20] I've owned my projector since September 2004 and haven't experienced any problems with it yet. I have about 2200 hours logged on the bulb so far and the brightness hasn't gone down from what I can tell. It projects well onto a white wall, but I wanted a more movie-like experience so I built a 90 inch screen to project it onto. Like one of the other reviewers, when I go to turn off the projector it sometimes acts like I hit the button twice, but since I'm trying to turn it off anyways I don't care. Never had the problem of accidentally turning it off before. The remote is quite thin so it is hard to hit the buttons to accidentally turn it off. Overall I am quite happy with it. I have taken it around to my friend's houses for the superbowl and other events since my place is too small for a large gathering and it's a quick setup. The picture quality is still quite good in normal lighting so I don't have to close the blinds every time I want to watch TV. I'd recommend this projector to anyone on a budget. For the price it can't be beat.
We love our BenQ! [Posted on 2006-12-18] We have had this projector for two years and we have had no problems with it. We are on our second bulb. We use the projector as our daily tv so someone always has it on. We started looking for replacement bulbs when the first bulb neared 3000 hours. When the new bulb arrived, we decided not to change the bulb because it still looked great. Finally, after almost 9000 hours, we changed the bulb although it was still working. Our new bulb is at almost 2500 hours and it is working fine. We always view on economy and with the HD cable box, the image is amazing! Regular digital requires dim light - we're projecting onto the wall. Our only complaint is the lack of input/output ports. If there were more, this would be our dream projector.
no problems [Posted on 2008-05-16] We've had this projector just under 3 years, and have had no problems with it. The only thing is that we have it down, so we don't use the remote but the actual buttons on the machine. I find that sometimes we have to re-adjust the focus, etc because we bump it. The focus gets bumped easily when putting the lens cover off and on.
As for the bulb, it just flashed a message up saying we've used over 1980 hours, so I guess it's time to re-order a new one (though i think we've had it on economy, so it should last a while longer). We have a regular bedroom tv we use for general showing, or for the kids cartoons, etc- because the bulbs are so expensive, we generally don't use the projector for everyday watching. And as we're all at work, the tv isn't on all day either. I'm thinking there must have been a bad batch of bulbs for those of you who had problems- ours has worked great.
