Awesome [Posted on 2004-07-14]
This game is incredible and does a wonderful job of recreating ancient Egypt in all its splendor. I only wish that it gave you the possibility of invading neighbouring states instead of just waiting to resist an attack. But a wonderful game nonetheless.

Es un super juego, construyes poco a poco el antiguo Egipto, yo lo recomiendo......

It works. [Posted on 2006-06-08]
I started playing this game maybe four or five years ago. My friend told me about it, and I saw it while I was in Target, both Pharaoh and Cleopatra only for 10$. When I brought it home, I was hooked for weeks. Eventually I let a friend borrow it, and then misplaced, so I'm buying a new one, but I'm still hooked, even on the demo!
I was immersed in the fact that I controlled hundreds, and then eventually thousands lives of these people, in ancient Egypt. (My favorite time period.) Every aspect that dealt with controlling the city, water, food, housing, wars, trading, I was in control of and I liked it! Of course there are some things that do become irritating, (such as people going where they're not supposed to, the inefficiencies of the roadblocks) but I realized it was just part of the challenge of the game, being able to build and plan an entire part of a city. The part I enjoyed the most, was that I could build pyramids, such important relics of the time that makes Ancient Egypt stand alone.
For anyone who is a "control freak" or enjoys simulation, strategy, history, and city building games will definitely enjoy Pharaoh and Cleopatra. It's a fun game that can pull you in for hours and lose track of reality. Isn't that what a simulation supposed to do?

It's great until you hit the bug that doesn't let you win. [Posted on 2007-02-18]
All I can say that this is a very fun game for those who are into historical city building sims. I bought it based on reviews and because I have an old Windows 98 machine that I like to buy older games which are very inexpensive but can still be a lot of fun.

It's been great up until episode 9 where I hit a bug that causes the game to refuse to let you win. I've met the criteria for winning by a vast margin, but the game never gives me victory in this episode. This bug is documented elsewhere on the Internet as I've found through a bit of research.

So, now I go and find the patch (the original creator of this game doesn't support it anymore), but I have to join a certain corporate web site and pay a fee for the patch, which kind of offsets the money I saved in the first place.

So, here is another example of a game that who-knows-how many people spent untold hours developing but wasn't worth a few extra hours of end-user testing, so it's got bugs that render it non-playable unless you just love wasting hours watching little graphic people running around an ancient Egyptian city. What a disappointment.
