Right product for the job [Posted on 2008-07-19] This little card makes using your old IDE hard drive usable in a SATA system.
To be clear on what this product does: [Posted on 2008-08-01] The package art/literature wording can be misleading. It states "Converts Serial ATA to Parallel ATA" and "Converts Parallel ATA to Serial ATA"
It works for what it was intended to do, which is connecting an IDE drive to a SATA controller. Yes, it is bidirectional in the sense that it handles read and write transactions to the drive, but make no mistake, it can only be used with (a) a SATA controller, and (b) an IDE drive, NOT the other way around. In other words, you cannot use it to connect an IDE controller to a SATA drive. For the latter, there is a sister product that features the male IDE connector (40 pins) required.
The circuit board requires space that may be available in most PC cases, and typically, it will not be able to fit in laptops or USB enclosures or NAS.
