I purchased this item for my Mom who was addicted to the original webbased Bookworm game. This game is completely different from that version aside from having to spell words. It is definitelty appealing if you enjoy turn based fighting games with an educational twist. I can see this as a great alternative to mainly straight out fight and kill type games. This will appeal to that part that the kid is looking for but also educate in the process for the parents sake. The only real downside I found in this game is it game be "beat" in very little time. So they overall story replay is limited. You can always start all over again but just spelling different words will be the only difference in the game story.

This game is challenging and even educational! I didn't realize that I knew so many words! If you liked Bookworm Deluxe, you'll REALLY like Bookworm Adventures...it's fun!!

WORD-FORMING DUELING FUN!! [Posted on 2007-11-27]
This is a excellent educational tool for preschoolers and adults wishing to hone their vocabulary - and a great TV-alternative.

Words have to be recognized and formed from an increasing wall of letters, not necessarily in sequence. To make things more interesting, a semblance of story unfolds, in which duels take place: if your word is smaller that your opponent's you lose the round.
All in all: a graphically spiced-up version of the good ol' BOOKWORM DELUXE.

This is a perfect example of what has come to be known as Casual Gaming. It would be a good idea to download the 60-min trial version from a site, such as REFLEXIVE (you can Google it), and decide for yourself whether this is indeed your cup of tea.

Bookworm Adventures is great fun and keeps the mind stimulated. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to work with their mind.

This game is somewhat different than Bookworm. Bookworm is more a combination of Tetris and Boggle. This is more like a series of word puzzles, each slightly different. As you "solve" each puzzle Lex (the worm) attacks the bad guy once (mythological type creatures with a twist) and then the bad guy strikes back once. You then solve another puzzle.
This game is much beloved by the 12 year old boy in our house, partially because I am willing to let him play it pretty often since it has some educational value. I have played it myself but find that I return to the original Bookworm as it seems to move faster. Children at reading level (not age) of about 5th grade do very well with it. Below that level they struggle and will need some help.
