Be great when they finish it... [Posted on 2007-02-01] Yes, it is "finished" and no more work will be done on it, but as it stands, Brigade e5 is an unfinished product. There is very little voice acting (and only a word or two when there is) and the voice acting as it exists is terrible. The English translations are unacceptable and many maps still have their Russian names. Building interiors are non existant and NPCs are undeveloped. There is no dialog for conversations and conversations themselves are very simple. Had this game been developed in 1993, it would still be needing work. The 3D figures themselves are of Sims 1 quality.
Items in the game are impossibly expensive, rifles costing around $7000 game dollars and medkits around $500. Medical aid costs about $1000. The thing is that game "rewards" for finishing quests will only net you a couple of hundred game dollars. A great reward might get you 3000, but you can see that will go very fast.
Game balance is skewed in favor of the AI as many of these game types are. Even on easy level, a single handgun shot can instantly kill one of your soldiers. I play $40 for a game so I can enjoy playing it, not so some game designer in Leningrad can be happy knowing I'm stumped in the first battle and have to put the game away and make it a very expensive paperweight.
Building off the fame of such games like Jagged Alliance, this game is only good enough to remind you how good it was to play JA2 and Silent Storm. Whether this game company just did not have time to make a good product or just did not care, you should wait until this game is on the $10 bargain rack to buy it.
The game is work an afternoon or two of play when you're bored, but dont pay more than $10 for it.
