well ive had this for a few days and ive havent had any problem with it i dont fax alot but if I need to the brother will be in my closet when needed to send or receive where needed from what ive done it does the job not pretty but good enough so iam givivng it a 4 out of five missing one star cause the should have use a ink cartidge instead of ribbon ok hope this helps
p.s that why I thinks some time the image when you get fax look a little blan and chipped some time but when i use the highest print setting it looks a little better

This fax machine is worth the money... It does its job. Nothing fancy. The replacement ink is going to run you about $25-$27. I buy mine on e-bay for half the price..

Do yourself a favor and spend a little more and get a better machine than this one. The fax quality is very poor and it works rather slowly. It uses rolls of carbon paper ribbon to create the incoming image. It comes with a very small roll and the replacement roll costs HALF what the whole machine does! I gave $40 for the FAX and the ribbons are $20. It advances the roll the a full page even if the incoming fax is very short.Also, if privacy is a concern, this machine keeps ,on the roll, a picture perfect negative image of every fax you receive! Get yourself one of the lower cost fax machines which use a standard black printer cartridge and you will be much better off.

I managed to practically steal this fax machine for $19.99 from my local Staples. Okay, it was a rebate offer, but it's one of those rebates you can fill out online without any of the usual hassle of sending in UPCs and receipts or jumping through fiery hoops while signing off your first born.
But to the product. This is exactly what I needed at home. There was a little bit of annoyance with the internal setup, but once that was done, I found it very easy to use and it served the very basic job of sending a 4 page document.
This isn't a fax machine for an office that needs to send out or receive a high volume of faxes. The instructions clearly state that the print cartridge is good for 150 sheets so the best use for this particular machine is for a basic home office.
I also would NOT recommend using this as a copier unless you just need something quick and dirty. My main use is largely to SEND faxes so I don't have to make trips to work, Kinko's, or wherever else I would need to go in order to do so. It's a convenience, especially if you use a fax machine on a weekly basis like I do.

When you buy a machine you expect it to work. I was told first it was the ink, then I was told (after the warrantee was expired) that I wasn't using Brother ink. I still have all the receipts! Customer service holds were almost an hour long, and then I'd get accused of using some illegal ink. I won't buy another Brother product.
