Customer Reviews:

My first laser printer [Posted on 2008-04-13]
For my first black and white laser printer works very well. Gives good quality printed jobs. Fast when printing several pages. Paper is curled at ends when exits the printer, but set down for few minutes and paper flattens out. Very good product for the price.

easy to install, good print quality, toner lasts a long time [Posted on 2008-04-23]
The title is essentially my review. I think I mgith have been able to buy a cheaper printer, and maybe I could have bought a non-network ready printer and set it up myself, but at the time I was too busy and too stressed to worry with that. You can look at it as an opportunity cost. If you think the extra 50 bucks that you mgith save with a non-networked model is worth it, then this is a good buy.

So far as print quality, it's a laswer printer. it's fast, and it prints, and it looks about as good as any other laser printer.

Printing double sided can be a pain in the butt, and it's difficult to load the papers in to the feeder well if you want to do so, since they do curl up a bit from the heat. the amount of curling isn't problematic if you're printing single-sided, but can be problematic if you're planning on feeding the sheets in again for double-sided printing. Also, the paper quality makes a big difference. Cheap paper curls up more.

I would buy this printr again. It was insanely easy to set up, and I resently re-installed the OS in both my networked computers and getting the printer back up on both took only minutes. You're paying for simplicity. if you need it, this is a good buy. If you're a tech saavy buyer with a few extra minutes, you might want to go for a cheaper model and do the networking yourself.

Bad substitute sent [Posted on 2008-04-24]
Brother HL-2070N Network Monochrome Laser Printer (Black)
This product was apparently not available and the vendor sent HL-2170 unstead, which is supposed to be an upgrade. However the 2170 doesn't communicate well with the Linux operating system, which is what my blind nephew uses, and this printer was ordered for him. So, not knowing a substitute was sent (afterall, he is blind so couldn't see the numbers on the box) was not happy once he felt his way through the installation process, and couldn't use it nor the printer cartridges he purchased.
Very sad for him.

No Regrets in Buying a Black & White Laser! [Posted on 2008-04-27]
First of all, I must break the news that I'm not an electronics guru, so I don't look at all the technical aspects of a purchase. If that's a problem, please scroll past this review as fast as you can.

I often buy top-rated items with all the bells and whistles--simply because I worry that I'll wish I had all those high-priced, fancy features. Then I never use them. So, I worried before I bought this printer: Will I be satisfied with plain old black & white? Will the printer be a lightweight, flimsy thing that threatens to fall apart right away? Will I get razzed for making another stupid purchase and for pitching my problem-prone Hewlett-Packard color printer for this one?

Well, after four months with this Brother HL-2070N, I can tell you that this was one of my wiser moves! First of all, I was delighted to be able to install everything and actually get it running without my spouse's help. YEA!

At first, I bought some all-purpose paper that curled a bit. After I switched to 22#-24# weight, the paper stays flat. I have a hunch that curling is also more of a problem in humid climates, but I haven't received any big grant money yet to check out that profound theory.

The printer is noisy when it warms up, but that lasts for less than a minute, so it's no big deal...unless you locate your printer on your spouse's nightstand and run it at weird hours of the night.

When I run paper through the manual slot, sometimes the print on my paper is slightly askew--maybe because I didn't perfectly align the paper in the slot. That doesn't happen every time (maybe just 2.667% of the time). I just re-do the page. Needless to say, I prefer the tray!

I have a little trouble determining how to print on the back of a page, and how to do envelopes so that I don't print on the flap side or upside down...but I confess that I HATE reading directions. Some easy-to-read markings on the printer would help people like me.

The quality of the print is excellent; it looks crisp and professional. One thing that I especially love about the laser is that I can use a highlighter over the print without blurring it. A highlighter is A LOT cheaper way to go than using a color printer for the same job. It's also a lot faster than my DeskJet was.

So, unless you are in a vocation which requires the use of color printing, I think that you would be very satisfied with this printer. Since I bought mine, I have not missed the color feature AT ALL. In January 2008 it cost substantially less than it does now. But, knowing what I know now, I would pay the present price without batting an eye. It is an excellent printer!

Brother HL-2070N Workhorse [Posted on 2008-05-11]
This is the 3rd 2070N I've installed. I have one at the office, and the other two were at a small business and home business. They are great printers. Very reliable and flexible. The only negative I can think of is the paper path is a little tight so pages (and envelopes) come out a little curved but settles with time. Great printer for the buck.
