Customer Reviews:

Organizer's delight [Posted on 2008-05-27]
This item is a winner. It was purchased based on my brother-in-law's recommendation of a smaller model. I am using it strictly for home organizing tasks and find it easy to use, fast set-up, and good labels for shelves, boxes, etc. Haven't tried the computer functions yet. But would definitely recommend this for making labels for home use. There is one proviso which I would note to the manufacturer. It is tough to figure out which of the label tapes fit each model. A better system is needed to identify them with the appropriate machine. To give an example, it would appear that all TMZ model labels would fit this one; it's not true though. Be careful about this when you purchase the labels.

Does job well, a few issues [Posted on 2008-09-06]
This product works as advertized and produces clear labels that stick well to everything I've tried, including flexible cases for electronics.

One difficulty: the distance from the print head to the tear-off point is long enough that you can't produce labels with narrow margins without cutting the tape by hand.

Also, I wish this came with a general print driver for Windows. You can use it from the computer, but only with their rather limited software.

Maximum label width is about 3/4" on this model.

Despite these minor limitations I am very happy with the product.

Buying the label cartridges is a bit of a puzzle because there are so many to choose from. I recommend [...] rather than Amazon, because they have done a really good job of organizaing their Web site to make it easy to know what your alternatives are.

does the pt 1950 work with windows vista??? [Posted on 2008-09-12]

I like the printer, but... [Posted on 2008-09-15]
the Brother PT-1950 allows too much tape,(tab/margin),on both sides of the title of the label, which makes for a lot of wasted tape. For example, when you type the name, "Chris", in capital letters, the name is about 1 inch long. Well, the label turns out to be a total of about three inches long, because there is 1 inch of empty/wasted label space before the letters (or whatever you are printing) begins to print, and then there is an empty space of one inch of wasted space after the printing is finished. So when you add that extra two inches of wasted space each time you print, A LOT of tape is being wasted, which will get costly. This is the killer of this machine for me. I mostly use the printer to create file folder labels, and since the tab/margin is so wide/long, I have to trim each label with scissors, which it is irritating, and inconvenient. I tried to adjust the tabs, but that doesn't help. The problem appears to be in the amount of space between the point where the tape begins to come out of the cartridge, and the drive roller that actually 'pulls' the label out. Btw, I tried to call brother, and waited on hold for at least 40 minutes before I gave up. I want to like this printer, but this is an engineering oversight. The reason to buy a labeling machine is convenience, and speed, but when you have to trim each tape, it no longer is convenient.

This is a great little labelmaker. I found the software easy to install and easy to use. The labels look great and they are easy to separate from the backing. You have available all the fonts you have on your computer and can set the font sizes to the maximum size of the label. I like that it comes with an adapter so I don't have to use batteries but I still have that option. Would definitely recommend.
