I Love My P-Touch [Posted on 2008-01-21] The P-Touch Label Maker is easy to set up and use. The label quality is excellent and fun to use.
Excellent Label Printer [Posted on 2008-01-23] This label printer does exactly what was made to do and does it well. I sell books on Amazon and use this to print labels. It does an excellent job. The included software makes it easy to create a database of names and addresses that you can use with the labels. You can also easily import graphic images and put the images on the labels. I had thought about saving a little money and getting the model that doesn't support automatic cutting of the labels and am glad that I didn't. The labels print quickly and don't smudge if you rub them. The printer can use an assortment of different size and types of labels . The labels come on a roll that is very easy to insert into the printer (it's almost foolproof). Easy to turn off and back on to conserve power. Takes up very little desk space and connects easily via USB.I've had mine for over a month and an very glad that I finally bought one. I can't think of one negative thing to say about this printer.
Makes name tags for our meetings [Posted on 2008-03-01] Perfect portable unit we take with us with our laptop to make name badges at an offsite meeting venue. Costs far less than other products designed for this purpose. We even were able to add our logo.
Great value.
Great Printer--Really Badly Designed Software [Posted on 2008-03-23] At one time, the QL-550 was my favorite label printer, mostly because I liked its print quality better than DYMO's. When I upgraded to Mac OS X Leopard, however, I ran into problems. Installing Brother's "Leopard-compatible" driver and label software worked fine, and the label printer worked great. Unfortunately, installing the Brother software "broke" around 20 of my previously installed programs, including Microsoft Office 2008, Logic Pro, and Adobe Creative Suite CS3. I don't know if reinstalling each of these programs after installing the Brother software will work, as I don't have the patience to hassle with it. I'm instead doing a complete reinstall of my main hard drive's contents (pre-Brother) from Time Machine.
This is a great printer, but until Brother comes up with software installers that don't cause problems for other installed programs, I can't recommend this printer for Mac users.
Horrible network performance, very poor software. [Posted on 2008-04-08] We bought one for our office, and proceeded to waste a lot of time trying to get it to print as a network printer. Brother's software is bug-ridden, and didn't install cleanly on any of our Windows machines. And online support is a joke. This printer worked fine on one machine, but is a terrible waste of time for network printing. You can't simply set this up as a regular printer, but must go through Brother's proprietary software for every print. A real pain.
