This product rocks!! [Posted on 2006-05-12]
I bought this product for my new home pc and found the product very user friendly. The price point was very attractive and I would recommend to my friends and family.

Save your money........not as good as the freebies [Posted on 2006-05-19]
Got the eTrust Suite as part of a monitor package. Installation was fairly straightforward - no problems. User interface is pretty clunky with a lot of unnecessary clutter. Software works OK except for the firewall. I lose ability to get on the internet 3 to 4 times daily. Only solution I've found is to shut down and restart the firewall (or reboot).

Went online. The CA knowledge base is a joke. It's been set up by people with full knowledge of CA's product lines. No one there has given the slightest thought to setting it up so a new customer can use it. (BTW - try to find the release # anywhere on the eTrust software??) I finally found a couple of articles addressing problems similar to mine and tried the fixes with no success.

Finally decided to submit a tech support request. Filled out a poisonously long form requiring everything except waist size. I patiently described the problem in detail and included everything I'd already tried to solve it. For my trouble I received a form email 12 hr. later with a solution that didn't work (I'd already tried it from their knowledge base). And of course there was no way to reply to the email. Their first email was followed immediately by a second one declaring CA was happy to know my problem was solved and inviting me to fill out a tech support survey. Believe me, I did.

With [...] this software ranges from inexpensive to free. At free it's still overpriced. I'm going to dump eTrust and go back to ZA, AVG, AdAware and the other freebies. At least they work.

Surprisingly, CA's firewall appears to be Zone Alarm Pro with a thinly disguised facelift. ZA has always worked great for me. It requires a lot of talent to take a good product and screw it up but CA has succeeded.

Terrible product - with even worse tech support! [Posted on 2006-07-05]
Possibly the worst software product I've experienced - which is really saying something! It hung up during the install several times, repeatedly kicked me off-line, etc. To rectify the issues, I first tried CA's online chat-based technical support. After 45 minutes of waiting, during which I repeatedly received messages saying they'd be with me in a moment, I finally gave up. I then submitted a written and detailed description of the issue (and the fact that the chat-based help had not worked) via email, per the instructions on CA's website. After about 5 days with no reply, I finally received a message back from their (obviously off-shore) tech department that did not address or acknowledge my issues at all, and instead indicated that I should use the online chat. Excuse me, but have you ever heard of a do-loop???

After significant time and effort on my part I finally got this piece of junk working. That's when I really learned about the limited features, lack of ability to customize for different users, etc. It's a terrible product, even when it works.

I finally replaced this product with Norton Internet Security 2006, which installed well, has much better feature content, and has worked seamlessly.

If you are going to spend money on internet security that works, buy Norton. If you want revenge on someone who has done you a terrible wrong, buy them the Computer Associates eTrust product for Christmas this year.

Integration and support are killers  [Posted on 2007-01-21]
I purchased CA Internet Security Suite because I had a positive experience with the previous product Etrust Internet Security Suite. After installing the product, it appears that the personal firewall was not effectively integrated into the toolset. I continue to have challenges with inbound email so I had to shut that portion of the tool off, even though that is one of the base features that I was looking for.

The software is also not effectively integrated with the K9 Web Protection parental controls software that comes with it. After setting up the K9 software, I cannot use the administer signon to view and adjust the K9 software settings. I suspect the firewall product is again the culprit.

I have tried numerous avenues to engage CA support, thru Knowledge base and email... a virtual labyrinth that will discourage even the most intense user. Problem still exists and I receive an email request stating that my issue has been resolved and asking for an evaluation. What a joke. I am looking elsewhere.

You get what you pay for [Posted on 2007-06-08]
I got CA etrust free when I became a Roadrunner Customer. Until Time Warner took over Adelphia I was an Adelphia customer and used Freedom Security Suite provided by Adelphia. Freedom was not perfect but it found some spywares and viruses no other spyware or virus program found. And Freedom didn't conflict with my other programs.

I loaded CA etrust Security Suite after reading the directions and a clean reinstall of Windows and MS office 2003. Their were no other Virus or Spyware programs on my computer (an AMD 64 Bit) My computer froze up immediately. I rebooted many times but no cigar. I had to use Window's safety mode to uninstall the program. I thought that the problem might just be one of the programs in the suite, so I backed up my install and set another restore point and tried installing the CA etrust programs one at a time and in different combos. Only one of the programs didn't cause my computer to freeze or crash, and I could no longer uninstall from Window's safe mode. Thank God for setting up the restore point or I would have had to start from stratch again (ie. I would have had to reformat my c drive). Thank you so much Computer Associates, Time Warner/Roadrunner.
