Can I rate this ZERO stars? [Posted on 2008-08-13] This is absolutely the worst, time-wasting piece of junk I've ever tried...twice. I can read and follow directions with the best of 'em, but when the program CD said it had a problem with the AUTORUN.INF file and stalled, over and over again, I figured it was a software glitch. Returned the first set of CD and cable. Two days later: new set of CD and cable arrives; guess what? Same problem. This time I'm smarter and DON'T SPEND A WHOLE DAY THINKING IT'S MY PROBLEM AND I CAN GET IT TO WORK! This time I discover that the darn thing just plain DOESN'T WORK and I am sticking it back in the box and returning it. What a monstrous waste of time!!! I am computer literate, can read and follow directions and can even troubleshoot when required, but this piece of junk just doesn't work. Save your money; invest in an external drive and just move your files that way (my next adventure). I agree with another reviewer: this should come with a troubleshooting guide or, at the very least, its own little trash bag. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!
Great Product! [Posted on 2008-09-15] Excellent product. Good price, too. Worked like a charm in very little time.
Works!! [Posted on 2008-10-13] I purchased this cable with the intention of connecting an external hard-drive (old enclosure has only USB A male connector) to either an XP or Vista machine, unfortnately that didn't work. However connecting between my two laptops (XP and Vista) worked fine. The autorun feature of the CD didn't work, so I had to manually find the executable and install it on my XP machine. Not a big deal. It uses the Microsoft File and Transfer Wizard to copy the files over. So in all, it's worth if you are trying to connect two machines.
Good for setup of new computer; Nothing else [Posted on 2008-10-23] This cable is a one-trick-pony; use it to set up a new computer and throw it away. It seems to rely solely on Microsoft's software intended only for migrating user data to a new computer. This transfer is orchestrated by a `wizard' that leaves the user very little choice in what files get moved and where they go. Any potential for general transfer of individual files back and forth between computers is wasted. Any implication that this is possible is pure puffery.
The word `easy' in the name is, of course, a common commercial euphemism for `better than nothing'. It does not mean `quick', so don't make any plans for the rest of the day once you get started. But if you have just bought a replacement for a computer that is still in operable condition this device will probably save you a lot of trouble in reconstructing your old set up on the new machine.
It is important to understand that this cable only copies settings and data. It DOES NOT copy your programs. And it does not copy your settings if you don't have the program. So make sure you have the installation disks for your programs and install them on the new machine before transferring your settings.
Bad Choice [Posted on 2008-12-16] the CD driver does not work reporting "records type error".
When to the company website and they have "beta driver" which also does not work. What am I suppose to do !!! i am never buying from this company.
