USB1610B reader does not list all cards it handles [Posted on 2007-07-15] The USB1610B reader does not list all cards it handles. One of your reviewers refers to the retailer's information blurb as lousy because of this. Well, not even the manufacturer names all of the compatible cards it ends its blurb with: "and more." All the retailers including Amazon use that blurb and in doing so they waste the time of prospective buyers. No one wants to return items they really need.
convenient, but tricky [Posted on 2007-07-28] I had purchased this item several months ago. I installed it on my Gateway, and it wasn't too hard to install.... but there was little documentation to go by. The biggest problem that I had was that it slowed down my computer's start up time from about 20 seconds to roughly 4 minutes. I searched the web for updates and tech support, and even contacted Tiger Direct (who never returned my email). Well, by accident I had forgotten to remove a card from the reader one day, and when it started up, it only took the usual 20 seconds. So, FYI if your start up time is slowed down considerably after intalling this drive, just leave a card in the slot.
Easy Installation, works fine [Posted on 2008-02-07] Easy to install and does what it is supposed to do. Faster than my old reader (trashed by a bad CF card - bent the pins).
Yes, it needs a USB port on the motherboard, but as long as you don't have one of those Dells with their silly proprietary motherboards you should be ok. Check first.
One annoyance - the power light on the reader stays on permanently. I can't imagine what the reason for that is.
Good product [Posted on 2008-05-19] It worked fine for me I plugged it into my USB header on the mother board and windows xp and vista installed it with no problem Definetly worth the money
Sent the wrong item? [Posted on 2008-06-28] I was sent a external card reader instead of what I ordered. Maybe the picture and product information isn't the same.
