just OK [Posted on 2000-07-05] The picture quality is good though it's just a CIS scanner, not a CCD scanner. And it's noisy, but really a good choice for webpage maker.
Good Scanner [Posted on 2000-08-12] When I bought this scanner, it was about 99 bucks. I am very happy with it. It is very easy to use and hook up. Just follow the quick start guide and your golden. One touch scanning makes scanning quick and simple. Just press a button and select the program to use. It scans up to 1200 DPI which is plenty. It comes with good software- Textbrige Plus, Adobe Photodeluxe Home Edition 3.0, ScanGear CS-U, and Toolbox CS. I don't recommond it for Windows 95.(USB dosn't work good with Win95) If you consider in buying a scanner, I recommend this one!
Corporate user scanning 30 to 60 documents a day [Posted on 2000-08-25] We currently have one Canoscan FB620U in use and have ordered another one because of the flexibility and quality that it has offered. The scanning is a little slow going for high defintion but works great for scanning documents. The thing we appreciate the most is being able to control the size of the scanned item. This allows us to maintain more records on a hard drive than what other scanners have allowed us.
Excellent first scanner [Posted on 2000-09-03] Easy hookup to my PC-Pentium II processor. Easy setup, except for several attempts to complete the registration via modem--finally skipped through that and did the registration online. After that, I was quickly on my way, scanning my first photo in minutes. I felt it did a great job. I emailed my photos and response from my friends on the quality were very positive. Excellent choice for first-time scanner purchasers. Only downside is there is no on/off switch. Overall I'm very satisfied with this scanner.
works fine on Windows XP [Posted on 2006-07-28] I wanted to let everyone know this machine works fine with Windows XP. Canon has updated the drivers and they are easy to download from the Canon site and come with detailed instructions. After loading with Windows XP drivers, this machine was scanning in documents just fine using Adobe 6.0. The machine is made for Windows 98 so is selling very inexpensively used, particularly on ebay where I got mine for under $15.
So, the obvious advantages are that Canon still supports this unit even under Windows XP (media version with SP2), the machine is inexpensive used, and it is a great scanner. The downside is it is noisy, slow, and was never meant to be a high volume scanner. But for a home PC and light home usage, this is still a venerable old scanner. And, thanks to Canon (as opposed to say Visioneer who gives up on old scanners instead of re-writing the drivers for the new OS), this Canoscan is still doing a fine job on a later model Windows XP (service pack 2 media edition). If you need an inexpensive scanner, I highly recommend it.
