Great product! [Posted on 2006-11-01] Been using it for a while now...works amazing. I have even had a data loss at one point and Carbonite restored everything.
This Product Saved My Data [Posted on 2006-11-01] The true test of any backup product like this is when you have to restore your data. I have been using Carbonite for awhile and recently my hard disk melted down on my Dell laptop. I was able to easily restore all of my data--all of my data files and photos that are impossible to replace.
The initial installation was also very logical and simple to do. You can't beat the price of this product and I can tell you from personal experience that it works as advertised!
Great product [Posted on 2006-11-04] I have been using Carbonite for a while, and it is great. It's extremely simple to install, and then it just works. All of my important files are backed up to Carbonite's servers, and I don't have to mess around with copying my files onto disk or CD.
Not Bad - Read Instructions First [Posted on 2008-01-31] After unsuccessfully trying to run a seamless restore of my backup files to a newly-purchased computer, I wrote a somewhat scathing review of Carbonite. However, I must say that after rereading Carbonites instructions on switching from an XP machine to a Vista computer, and after reading the instructions on restoring Carbonite, I must say that the product worked well and rsetored as promised.
I will say that you need to do a couple of things to your Carbonite backup drive before trying to restore:
1 - You have to manually save all video files (it doesn't do it automatcally).
2 - You have to look to see if it backed up cookies or temporary Internet files.
3 - You'll want to read the instructions on restoring from an XP to Vista machine.
I'll tell you, even with my struggles, it was a heck of a lot more convenient to restore with Carbonite than using CD's or anything like that.
Fantastic product. Easy to use. Excellent customer service. [Posted on 2008-03-21] My husband and I have been using this product for about 6 months on two different computers - mine is running Windows Vista and his is running XP. We have not had any problems with either platform.
Product is easy to use. You choose which folders to back-up. The back-up happens in the background and we didn't notice any decrease in speed or performance during the back-ups.
Once the initial backup has been completed (this can take a while if you are backing up lots of music or video files - but it's in the background so you don't even notice it working), it automatically backs up any files that you have added or changed.
I had some foreign-language music files that displayed as "???" in the back-up, so I contacted customer service to see if there was a problem. Their customer service is EXCEPTIONAL. I actually got to speak to a person who knew something about the product and was helpful.
Later my husband called customer service because we hadn't received our rebates. They took our information, confirmed that we are actually registered users and we received our checks two weeks later. They also sent an email to confirm our conversation. Awesome!
I would say that the product is worth buying just for the excellent customer service.
The only thing that we can't speak to, fortunately, is how the process for recovering files works. We don't know how easy this is but we expect that it works fine.
