Much faster file transfer, little less stable. [Posted on 2003-07-01] I recently upgraded to this memory from a 128mb chip from PNY. My file transfer ability seems to have more than doubled due to the extra access memory available to my system. However, possibly due to the faster movement of information, my computer seems more likely to lock up when over-taxed by incompatible programs (ex: Kazaa and Netscape 7 don't like one another). Note that I said more likely, incompatible programs always have a chance of crashing your unit. Thus overall, I don't mind recommending this item for people who want to be able to do faster downloads or system manipulations (defragging takes half as much time now), but for multitasking, especially if using P2P programs or downloading programs, the chip is limited in stability.
Miracle Working RAM! [Posted on 2006-06-12] I have a Sony Vaio PCG-F650. A few years back this ram was on sale at Best Buy and I figured I'd give it a shot because it only 64mb ram. So that bosted me up to 320. A lot better when it comes to running Windows XP. Well later on I looked up my laptop and saw how it said MAX RAM 256 (2x128mbpc100) .... I thought I was looking at the wrong manual but I wasn't. Everywhere I would read the Sony Vaio PCG-F650 max ram was 256. So it's been a few years and I thought I'd see how much ram this puppy would take. I went to CompUSA and bought this ram for $89.99.... got home and sure enough both sticks were exactly the same and the laptop booted with 512mb ram no problem. Now when I tried some other 256 sticks the laptop wouldnt boot... but with this ram it does. I'm sure theres other ram out there that will work too. $90 is much for it but it beats buying a new laptop!
