The parts that don't break work fine [Posted on 2008-07-20]
The purpose of this device is to allow a compact flash card to be used as if it were a standard IDE hard drive. (If you don't know what this means, it is highly unlikely you'd want this device.) This particular model commands a premium because it comes with the parts necessary to allow it to either: 1) be mounted in a 3.5 inch drive bay (the way it's shown in the picture); or 2) be mounted in the back of the computer using a custom slot cover.

On paper, this sounds great, but this adapter is not worth its price, as poor build quality quickly comes back to bite you. In particular, the eject button does not--and cannot--function: the force required to eject a compact flash card from the connector is greater than the force required to break the eject button; therefore, the first time you push it with a card inserted, the eject button fails, hurtling a small piece of metal away from the adapter. If you're lucky, you learn this before inserting the adapter into your system. If you're unlucky, you can hope and pray that this projectile doesn't destroy something else inside your case.

The adapter still functions with the eject button gone, although there is an unsightly hole between the card socket and the faceplate where the button used to be. Note that the eject button is superfluous in any event--you can easily remove a compact flash card by simply gripping the card and pulling it free (and many compact flash sockets don't have any sort of eject system).

If you need a compact flash adapter with the mounting options this one offers, I strongly suggest removing the eject button ahead of time. Otherwise, look for a better quality adapter.
