Great Device [Posted on 2001-05-09] I was very impressed, in particular, by the Screen on this thing. When I decided to get the gray-scale Aero instead of the iPaq (which would have required waiting another 4 months), I thought I would be very disappointed by the screen. Having a handspring, I was assuming the screen to be very similar -- boy was I wrong. The Aero has a high-quality, high-resolution screen that rivals the quality of some desktops (yes, ok, it is much smaller -- but it is very easy to read). The backlighting is done intelligently & a modular port is available for upgrading the unit. One caution: don't drop it, it dings, dents and scratches easily -- and the silver unit really shows the marks.
Aero - simple, yet powerful [Posted on 2001-09-11] Did you ever buy something that you so believed in that you felt compelled to be an unaffiliated spokesperson for the product? That is how I feel about the Aero, and probably explains why I am writing this review. I am an officer in the army, and the Aero keeps me punctual and organized. The Microsoft CE system is outstanding and interfaces well with Microsoft Office. I can store Word, Excel, and all of my contacts and scheduled appointments on the Aero. I appreciate the audible reminder that I can set to remind me in the fury of an average day about a critical meeting. The Compaq Aero has everything that I was looking for in a PDA. If you can sacrifice the flash of color that you get with an IPAQ or Jornada for the slender, well priced, light, grey scale Aero, then this is for you.
Very Good [Posted on 2001-10-01] Although you can see the colors, this Pocket PC PDA is really helpful at your work, home or just when you get a little bored. The pocket versions of word, excel, outlook and explorer are compatible with your desktop PC so that you can carry important documents everywhere and read your e-mail. The infrared port works OK (I've tried it transfering contacts to an Ipaq). The battery last for a long time since the lcd screen is B&W (grey scale).
Aero 1550 [Posted on 2001-12-23] This is my 2nd pocket pc from compaq, It took a little adjustment but I really like this model. The price was great and it performs well. I recommend this unit.
disappointment [Posted on 2004-03-25] At first it was amazing. It simply locked up and wouldn't turn off. Had to take out battery to initialize, then one day that didn't work. Sent in for warranty service. Got it back and a couple of weeks later the screen cracked with light use of the stylus. Sent it back for warranty repair. They refused claiming a cracked screen was sign of abuse, period. Never got it serviced, never got my money back, they treated me like I was trying to [cheat] them. A total waste of money and worse than that the 12 people who bought it on my recommendation probably had similar experiences. Compaq/HP customer support are you out there?
