Hardware crash three weeks from new! [Posted on 2006-08-01]
Three weeks after I bought the darn thing it crashed. I only installed Microsoft Office software. I'm working away on a project when bam! The Blue Screen of Death appears to inform me that Windows XP had to quit. Then a totally dark screen.
Then the system starts back up, with a box offering to send an error report to Microsoft. I click it. Microsoft thinks for a minute then writes back: hardware failure. Either the memory, the power supply or the motherboard is defective. They're not sure which, but it's serious. The computer is obviously working for the moment, but unreliable.
Now I'm stuck. I can replace the computer, but Microsoft won't let me load their software a second time. I'll have to shell out $hundreds again for software I just purchased.
My opinion: I'm sorry I took a chance on this cheap computer. As someone once said, "The anguish of low quality endures long after the thrill of low price is gone."

I bot this at Office max, in santa rosa n california. 596.oo not bad, pluged it in the wall, at first it seemed kinda slow, but then I installed the update just once. and it was very fast. it still can be slow with some software.I installed music match juke box and it seemed slower for some reason, music match juke box, still not bad, but I must say at time yes it will get slow. so down load all the microsft up dates just once ,then turn the updates off, over rall its 4 rating. Installation disc is nice and it allows u to use it and erase your own computer with out taking it in to proffessional and the disc put every thing back on , the tecnology newer. its got ,newer installation disc tecnology. save a lot of time. Great computer, I got a good deal In santa rosa California 596.oo I had to do that rebate crap. but its fine.I have 2 laptops HP Pavilion zx5000 $1800.oo its got Pentium 4 chip,,,. also wanted a cheaper laptop to take with me every where. HP owns Compaq so I trusted the company,HP is dell Enemy number 1. so I bot Compaq presaro V5201us and I found I like it better then my other computer. because its got some new tecnoly thats easier. go ahead and buy one but do as I say. update all your software , Great laptop HP & Compact is great company
