ABSOLUTELY BEST BUY ~~!! [Posted on 2008-10-06] I bought this set for my computer a few years ago, and have liked
them so well that I just ordered two more sets for my televisions.
Discovered that they jack easily into the 'headset' portal,
and superbly amplify the less than ideal basic television sound.
Well built, with treble and bass adjustment, these speakers offer
large quality for little cost, and small footprint. So easy to
set up that your grandparents could do it, also!! Three cheers
to Creative Labs!!!
Not a real hifi speaker [Posted on 2008-10-17] I admit to being pretty picky about my hifi components. After reading the positive reviews for this speaker system, I thought they'd be a good replacement for some old Harmon Kardon HK195's that I had inherited. The Creative's arrived and they are hardly better than my old, cheap speakers. Specifically:
Pros
+ high-quality bass & treble drivers
+ clean bass (though not very deep, as expected for a little speaker like this)
+ clean treble
Cons (given the pros I've just given, what could be wrong?)
- thin & edgy sound (e.g., pianos sound unmusical)
- highly directional, sounds like two point sources instead of wall of sound
In both of these cons, the little Harmon Kardon speakers do better. The Creative speakers are decent but certainly not hifi, and in my opinion not worth $100.
niced while they last [Posted on 2008-11-01] I did a lot of research before buying these speakers and should have known better than to buy them. They sounded good in my small apartment, looked great (their best feature), were small and easy to transport. But one of the speakers died and no matter how much reconnecting and cord jiggling I did, it would not come back. I eventually threw them out. I should have known. Previously I went through two Creative Zen mp3 players before finally getting a refund since the first one unrepairably froze up and its replacement arrived with loose parts rattling inside. I'd check out a different brand.
Big sound, small speakers [Posted on 2008-11-02] These speakers will fill your room with crystal clear sound. small but mighty! Not bad on the bass too,, don;t know how they do it! Well worth the money, great solid construction, buy em!!
Great Sound for 2 speakers [Posted on 2008-11-10] These speakers are just right for me - desktop, plugged into my PC, listening to music, no gaming. For $90, I don't expect much more than this. The speakers (with a decent sound card of course) are capable of producing a flat response, and this is all I ask. I can tweak away and get deep, but not throbbing, bass and clean clear highs.
Even without EQ, the speakers right out of the box sound great. This is such a subjective thing, but to my ears - a musician for 20 years - they are well worth $90. They play quite loudly, enough to disturb people in adjacent rooms. I love the easy access to a headphone jack, bass and treble controls (hard to find these days) and a line in input.
I wanted to avoid the booming bass that most consumer speakers are designed to showcase, and all the products with subwoofers that I sampled had that "feature." These Gigaworks 2.0 speakers are well-balanced; with a good equalizer, such as in VLC, I can get the clarity I'm looking for.
I'm very impressed. If you want an obvious upgrade to your monitor / laptop speakers, and don't want to pay over $100, you can do worse. I listened to the Bose Companion 2, and was not impressed - empty-sounding cans IMHO. The Companion 3s sounded great, but they're about $250. If you want adequate desktop speakers, don't want (or need) the throbbing, booming bass, and can adjust an equalizer to suit your taste, I think you'll agree that these speakers fit the bill perfectly.
