This speaker system cranks [Posted on 2007-07-16] Believe it or not, I was directed from a Circuit City sales kid not buy the Harmon Kardon speakers system at the store and stick with Creative (which they didnt carry). I was impressed that he actually steered me right. I am more impressed with this system. I had an older Creative 2.1 and this is a signifcant upgrade. I'm not a Gamer - I do custom mixing (MixMeister) for fun on the home PC and this upgrade was worth it. Huge base for the money.
Sound is ok but ....... [Posted on 2007-10-31] Nice set of speakers and good features, but a big annoyance is there .... which is: the VERY VERY short speakers cables!! Yes, they are short to the extent that you should NEVER expect that you will take the toy out of the box and start enjoying! Instead, you should expect some effort to be done first to seek some electronic technician help to create a special extension for the supplied cables!!!
Big shame!!
Stopped working [Posted on 2007-11-24] Update: I did buy the logitech 5300 and although it was OK it did not compare to the Creative so I have now purchased my 3rd progamer 500. Hopefully this one will last longer (it has been 3 months so far). I have upgraded my rating to 3 stars because without question this system has the best sound. I just wish it would last longer.
I really like the sound from the Creative Pro Gamer 500 system. I also have 2 logitech 5500 systems and the creative sound is definitely superior. Unfortunately the first creative system I bought quit after slightly more than 1 year. Since I liked the sound a lot I bought a second one. Now it has quit too after about 7 months. The problem on both systems was overheating of the subwoofer. The logitech systems have large heat sinks to dissipate the heat which the creative system does not have. This is probably why my logitech systems have been working for years while the creative systems seem to fail early. I am going to try mounting a fan in the case but this will probably mess up the great sound. After 2 failures in a row with creative systems, next time I will buy logitech.
Gigaworks does not work [Posted on 2008-03-03] About 7 months ago I bought the Gigaworks 7.1 system, which should be better than this system since I paid over $ 500 for it. The system had the greatest sound, but too bad it only lasted for a bit. The waranty on products from Gigaworks is three months, and one week after that is exactly when the subwoofer started to have problems (sounding like a frog). About a month later I was down from a 7.1 to a 3.1. The speakers were fine, but the outlets on the woofer just stopped working. Finaly, about two months later, the woofer stopped working altogether and I have two little speakers working, which sound like a 5 dollar system, even though I paid over 500 dollars for it. Gigaworks doesn't help since they know their products are short life and only give you a 3 month warranty, where most other companies give you a 2 year warranty. Please consider this, and don't waste your money, unless you want to spend a few hundred dollars to have a few months of music. The other thing that doesn't work is the remote control. It only works when it is less then 2 feet away from the receiver, pointing it directly at the receiver and please have 4 seconds patience before it even starts working... It just works whenever it wants to. (And yes, I put brand new batteries in it).
Please consider this before buying this item, there are much more reliable systems out there. Gigaworks and their 3 month default product warranty should just not be in business...
Nice quality. THX Certified. [Posted on 2008-04-04] I am a self proclaimed audiophile and have been looking for a decent surround system for my computer. I wanted Something with a little more oomph than my Logitech 5300 and definitely more bass. I also wanted something the could faithfully reproduce my music (jazz and rock mainly) and create an enthralling movie experience.
I found this system and read reviews from many sites and decided i would give it a try. Well this system definitely gives you some oomph, i never have to turn it bast 1/3 of its volume to fill up my average sized dorm room easily. Its subwoofer is definitely big and powerful. Each satellite speaker has a built in mini-sub which allows even the surround speakers to deliver a full sound.
Games sound fantastic, movies are fully realized and music sounds great across all five speakers.
The only problem i have run into with this system is a sometimes over powering bass. (Putting this system in a larger room would help dissipate the bass and probably fix this problem). Although this isn't a Klipsch 7.1 audio system, it stands on its own as a very worthy computer sound system.
