UNBELIEVABLE SPEAKERS [Posted on 2002-04-01] For small desktop speakers these are unbelievable in their high level of sound quality and level. Driven by almost any Creative Labs sound card or equivelant, these are far better than most home stereos. While they won't shatter glass or your ear drums, they come close, and they do it without distortion.
Very good speakers [Posted on 2003-12-10] I had these speakers for almost 2 years. Great stuff, nothing to complain about.
Excellent speakers! [Posted on 2004-12-27] The Creative Labs Sound Blaster SBS20 speakers are quite impressive. The sound quality is clear and crisp, and absolutely superb compared to other 2-piece satellite speakers I have used including the Altec Lansing 120 speakers. One of the best features is the sound controls. In addition to the standard volume knob are knobs for adjusting the bass and treble and a push-button to mute the speakers. I have found the SBS20 speakers to sound and function beautifully for music, games, and movies, and I highly recommend them.
Second-rate speakers? I think so. [Posted on 2006-07-14] The first thing that you need to know is that I pulled these from a shelf in the warehouse where I work where they had been laying, discarded and unused for who knows how many years. The second thing that you need to know is that I had to resplice the sound cable that exits the computer; it was broken.
That having been said, these speakers are quite a bit better than the ones on my 15" Apple Powerbook: the SBS20's are louder and they've got much better bass response. However, all of the sound I'm putting through them (and I've been listening to some of my favorite songs for about the last hour or so) is a bit muddled; clarity (at least for me here) is a big issue. The sound is particularly bad when you campare it to the sound that a pair of Logitech Z-2300's or a pair of Harmon-Kardon Soundsticks II can produce, but, then, those speakers cost about $200/set in their time.
Because I got these for free, I really can't complain. I still miss my Z-2300's, though. :)
