I dig it BUT, get the 5.1 [Posted on 2000-11-09] This is the mother of all sound cards. Package is intense. The games are nice and the software packeage is great, Sound fourge is a rocking wav editor. The Live drive just makes it all the better, BUT if you're thinking about it, get the 5.1 it has the digital outputs. And also has a remote control, which is great for DVD playback. As the 5.1 because more readily available this version will get cheaper, and if you do not need digital outputs and it is a no-brainer. All in all I'm very satisfied with this product, creative is also very great about drivers IMO this is the best sound card that money can buy.
Support issues with Creative Labs [Posted on 2000-12-02] The ideas behind the card are wonderfull..if it works. If it does not work on the first try, don't count on having good documentation on either the website or in the manual. The Creative Labs website appears to be no more than an advertisement for more purchases of Creative Labs products. My install was done strictly by the manual, has no hardware conflicts, but hangs my machine (that exceeds the specifications) and does nothing but squeel or pop if I get any sound out of my speakers at all. Even as an experienced installer, in the future, I'd pay to have this particular card installed so that I didn't have to deal with Creative Labs pitiful lack of troubleshooting documentation.
Major conflicts [Posted on 2001-01-04] This card conflicts with everything. Once I called Creative (non-toll free #) it just made things worse, it took me all afternoon to fix what creative told me to do. Then they said try updating all my drivers for all my other hardware. If it doesn't work off the bat get rid of it or you headache will only get worse.
nice card. [Posted on 2001-11-25] This bundle is essentially a Sound Blaster Live! card, with the Live! drive and all the trimmings. It also includes an infrared remote control. If you add surround sound speakers, playing games can be enthralling. Imagine playing a game and actually hearing someone walking behind you (or shooting). The bundled software ranges from cool to useless. The games are nice, but I find the Keytar application particularly worthless. It presents the image of guitar which you "play" by strumming (moving the mouse). If you want the convenience of plugging in cables without reaching around to the back of the PC (like for headphones) or MIDI, then this bundle is for you. If not, then I would recommend the MP3 or X-gamer versions which are both cheaper. Also, please note that the installation CD will install a spy-ware application, which will sometimes "phone home." It can be removed by editing the registry without any ill effect. For privacy invasion, I have to deduct at least one star.
Alright Card [Posted on 2002-10-10] This is a nice sound card. I installed it with my Windows ME when i first got it b4 the audigy came out. It was the nicest sound card you can get. After awhile i got XP, then it went downhill. The drives are XP incompatible and the newer drivers sometimes dont install over the XP native drivers. Tried contacting Creative, but that didnt help, took forever for a responce
