Another title with DRM from Electronic Arts, NO thanks! [Posted on 2008-10-05] Recently I purchased two coies of Spore and regret it due to the DRM. In this case I waited for this game to be in stock to know if it has DRM crap on it. Yes, it has DRM (SecuROM root kit).
So, this is a game I'll never purchase due to the DRM. Electronic Arts doesn't got the message we sent on Spore, they are playing hard on their customers and will loose a bunch of them. Particularly I'm banning from my life anything with DRM and since EA doesn't listen to the customers, then I'll not buy anything from them until any DRM is removed from their games. End of story.
Get Past the DRM nonsense [Posted on 2008-10-06] Once you get past the DRM thing, perhaps you want to read an honest review of the game, not just the software issues
Warhead takes you on the journey the original crysis should have.. Fast action, multiple enemies, and abundance of weapons and tactics.
The system fundamentals are all the same but there is a sense of improvement. It feels better, more complete. There is less running 5 miles from point A to B to encounter some action, now it's instant actions will little to no cross country journeying.. a major improvement.
Personally the game looks better and more computer user friendly. You can still change all your setting and make it the way you want it to look, my only complaint is still the auto save chunkiness at times. I found myself getting to a point and a hang up then getting shot at or hurt instantly. But over all it works well.
Crysis Wars is a major improvement to the package as well. You install it, and you have more maps and options in multiplayer. Plus you don't need the CD in the drive to play. Which for some is a great thing. MP has become much more fast action and enjoyable, and i encourage all to get this game just for the action.
Over all i like this game alot. The only change would be to add some kind of achievement awards or something to keep you playing to level up or get something for all your time. But other than that it's a good solid game. And for the price it is well worth the $30, even if single player is shorter, you actually get the price cut for it. Hooray EA for supporting this game and i hope there is more to come from the Crytek franchise.
If You Want A Virus Install This Game. [Posted on 2008-10-07] Its seems the EA wants to know what your doing with your PC. They say they are not going to monitor gamers habits, but we all know that's not going to happen. So if you want to play a great game and give EA complete access to your computer go for it. And good luck getting their spy ware off. Better off reformatting. I my opinion its not worth it. I wanted spore too but I'm not loading that crap on my PC.
I refuse to buy games with SecuROM DRM [Posted on 2008-10-07] Games that use SecuROM v7 are anti-consumer. SecuROM limits the number of times you can install the product and essentially takes away your rights to use the product you paid for. Limited activations are crap. I will not buy any games with limited activations. If this is the way PC gaming is going, then I really dont care if PC gaming dies.
Played it from a friend, returned it three hours later. [Posted on 2008-10-07] The verbosity of the people flaming the game for the DRM is amazing, most organized anti DRM complaints I've seen are very rude and useless. Thanks guys, this is how change is made.
Yes, most of the DRM complaints are sadly true, it WILL crash your system and it's difficult to get off of your computer, much like earlier antivirus products. Unfortunately, the DRM is written maliciously and does not stop piracy, only legitimate gamers.
I frequently trade single player games with a friend, after trying to get past a new explorer.exe crash (which is caused by an obscure registry key made by securom) I eventually got into the game and tried it.
It's beautiful as ever, with the same house-crashing physics we came to enjoy in crysis, plus some additional content. It is short, very short on easy difficulty.
The gameplay does not warrant the DRM, nor does the updated engine warrant it. After beating it, I tried to uninstall it, and unfortunately had a lengthy battle with securom totaling more time than I spent on the game.
They will most likely release a patch that removes the DRM once the main group of sales is done. Wait until then, you'll get a better product for less money and less trouble.
