Antec CS600 [Posted on 2005-12-22] Very well designed mid-tower case. Easy to install hard-drives, optical drives and misc. other items. Good layout and easy access. I've built two systems for other people with this case. Very well constructed. I also use addtroncis cases and they too are well built but I would have to say the Antec is the eaiser to work with.
Excellent Case, If You Have The Space [Posted on 2006-01-11] I originally purchased this case because I wanted a large, open case with plenty of 5.25" drive bays on the front. The large number of internal bays was a bonus. It's made from heavy gauge steel that has the edges rolled to prevent cuts and scrapes when working in it. It also has fold-out legs for added stability.
On the negative side, it's a massive case, and takes up a large amount of floor space (don't even think about putting this thing on top of a desk). The other bad thing about this case is that it handles four 80mm case fans, not including those in the power supply. Let's face it, this case was designed to be used as a server, so it needs plenty of airflow for cooling. In my case, I have a total of 8 fans, most of which are temperature controlled. This helps limit the noise, but when I tax the system, they speed up to cool it down, thus generating a bit more noise than most people would like.
This case has 4 full size external bays for items like CD-Roms, etc., as well as two 3.5" bays for things like floppy drives or ZIP drives. There are also four additional internal 3.5" drives for hard drives. The added bonus on the hard drive cages is that each one of the two cages is removable. This makes mounting the three drives it holds very easy. The only thing you have to do once you have them back in the case is plug them in. This can be difficult once you have six drives sitting right on top of each other.
Many gamers use this case, or the generic versions of it for extreme gaming machines. I just used it for my everyday workstation because I have multiple hard drives, and at the time had a CDRW drive and a DVD-ROM. Now with the inexpensive nature of DVD burners, I have extra full size bays that aren't used anymore.
I like this case so much, I decided to purchas a second one of these cases to use as a file server on my home network. I have the usual floppy and CD-ROM drives, but since I have five more 3.5" bays, it makes perfect sense to use it for a file server with a RAID array. If needed, I can always add adaptor kits so that I can mount hard drives in the 5.25" bays as well.
If you're looking for a case that's extremely well made, solid and secure, this is the case for you. The bonus on this one is how roomy it is for all your hardware...if you have the room.
