Complex and Addictive! [Posted on 2002-05-20]
Fantastic game! The graphics would normally be considered sub-par (especially when you zoom in) but if you factor in the sheer number of things happening at the same time, they're better than anyone could expect (even if some of them are sickeningly cute). The interface was different than I thought it would be. You can't directly control your Viking's surrounding or what exactly they do. However, this adds to the gameplay rather than detracking from it because there's always something going on. If you need Iron tools you have to build an Toolsmith's workshop and promote the Iron Smelter to become a toolsmith, the Iron Miner to become a Iron Smelter, and the Clay-Worker to become an Iron Miner. Oh yeah, and then you need someone else to take the Clay-Workers place.
Pros:
-Intrique technology tree
-Cute animation makes likable Vikings
-Hidden jokes and amusing fluff added by the creaters
-Easy interface

Cons:
-Long tutorials and beginners levels are a must
-Enemy tribes will never change their attitudes towards you
-Technology tree can be overly complicated and difficult

All in all a great game and the pros far outway the cons. I give it an enthusiastic five-stars!

I AM ADDICTED TO CULTURES!!! [Posted on 2003-04-03]
I AM A CULTURES ADDICT-i love this game-i have been playing it since it came out-long before it was easy to purchase in america-gamers that enjoy battle realms might enjoy this game-there is a lot of ecology in this game though and those new to the game will find their tribes starving to death-OFTEN-once you learn the 'tricks' to the game-that will not happen-i have spent so many hours playing this game i cannot even make an estimate-i have played all the champaigns twice and all the xtra games 4 or 5 times each-I STILL LOVE IT-if there was only one game i could own-it would be this one! the original cultures

A VERY FUN ADDICTIVE GAME [Posted on 2005-10-28]
This game has all the ingrediants to hook you to it for the rest of your life. If you truly enjoy playing strategy games, you will love this one.

simple and formulaic [Posted on 2006-04-12]
I don't understand why some say it's complex. By the time you're done with the tutorial you know in what order to train your workers and build buildings, and how to lay out the village so that everyone has easy acccess to the facilities + resources they need. That's all there is to this game.

If you like micro-management, the game's good, but can be mindnumbingly slow.

That said, I had no technical problems with the game, which is unusual with a game that has so much going on at once. And, since it is <$10, I suppose it is cheap entertainment that'll keep you out of trouble for the few days it takes to learn the formula for a working village.
