Dell makes decent montiors [Posted on 2006-11-11] No offense to the one review prior to this one...but this is a decent monitor and I wanted to rate it up. I would not have purchased any other brand of monitor, unseen, for this $172 price...but traditionally Dell has made top notch monitors. 17" is sufficient for most office use and the clarity/functionality of this has not let me done in the 5 months since purchase. I'm always leary of Dell's proprietary computer configurations, but as monitor manufacturers, I have no complaints. Wish that I could convince my office to 'stock up' on this one--it's a bargain.
Dell E176FP 17-inch Flat Panel Color LCD Monitor [Posted on 2007-03-20] I bought a 17inch HP monitor more than 10 years ago, and had used it until I purchased this 17inch flat panel monitor. No problems with the HP, BUT it did take up a lot of space. I am "computer challenged" so really can't rate this Dell from a technical stand point. I just know that it doesn't take up much space and the screen is very clear. Also, there is no "black" space on the edges, which was beginning to creep in with the old HP monitor. I am very pleased with the purchase.
Space Saver [Posted on 2007-05-24] This monitor leaves alot of space. I works great and the color is better than my last one.
So far so good... [Posted on 2007-07-23] ...especially since mine was given to me by my company. I'm an at-home medical transcriber who uses mine 8 hours a day. I can't complain. I like the darn thing far better than my old Compaq heavy-duty one. I don't hear much good about Dell these days but then again, I don't know a great deal about PCs anyway. I see it probably didn't cost my company much and they probably bought a bunch of these but at any rate, it's nice and I do like it.
Awful [Posted on 2008-10-19] A local library bought all new Dell computers with new 17 inch Dell LCD monitors. I've used them and found that every one they bought looks terrible. Black and white pictures look bluish, yellows used to highlight database selections are displayed as white like the background, text is blurry, and brightness is uneven at different viewing angles. I wish I could have given a 0 star rating. These problems are not unique to Dell LCDs, as I've tried LCD monitors from Sony and Samsung but returned them for the same reasons.
My 7+ year old heavily used Samsung picture tube monitor looks much better than any LCD I've seen. Save the picture tube!
