Dorcy Build Quality Alert! [Posted on 2008-06-06]
About a year ago, I bought 3 small Dorcy flashlights. One was the CR123: very tiny, very bright, runs on the 3V lithium batteries. I've had no problems with that one (see my other review).

HOWEVER, the other two were slightly larger and ran on AAA batteries. They each cost about $20, which I thought was pricy for a small flashlight - but since the other one worked well, I figured it would be a good investment.

Just one year later, after only very light use, I'm noticing a serious build quality defect in both of them. The plastic core (inside the flashlight) which holds the batteries in place is cracking apart. I know this isn't a fluke because it's happening to BOTH OF THEM. On one, the cracking is further along, and it no longer functions. On the other, the cracks have started to appear. I don't expect it to last through the next camping trip.

I find it very disturbing that only 1 year after paying about $40 for 2 small flashlights, One is broken and the other's on its last legs. These things look just great on the outside - sturdy and stylish - but it seems they used a really cheap quality plastic to make the innerds. I find that pretty unforgivable considering how much I paid for them.
