Customer Reviews:

i'm not getting gigabit ... [Posted on 2008-01-19]
i replaced a linksys 10/100 switch with this one purely for gigabit speeds between my imac & a lacie 2big network raid. no such luck. transferring an 80gb itunes library should only take about 15min at gigabit throughput. but it takes 2.5 hours. i even wasted extra money on cat6 cables. activity monitor still says i'm getting 10megabytes/sec. shoulda just stuck with the linksys.

by the way, checked carefully for high-pitched noises. i'd suggest the reviewer who complained of same had a defective sample.

perhaps i too have a defective sample, given the inferior throughput to what's advertised ...

UPDATE: took the lacie out of the equation. plugged my work laptop, one i know is capable of gigabit speeds 'cause the office network is that (and more). totally disappointing. tried a 2gb data file (a parallels vm image of my virtual windows machine). got about 8megabit/sec transfer speed. that file should have transferred in about a minute. i killed the transfer at about halfway after 8 minutes. it's the d-link. it's no gigabit, rather it's just garbage. unfortunately i've had it past the 30 day returns window. this is the second time i've been disappointed by a d-link product & the last time, too.

Very good throughput for a small footprint [Posted on 2008-02-01]
My model is the DGS-2205 with the 5V power adapter. Like a previous reviewer, I noticed that I wasn't getting anywhere near gigabit speeds to my LaCie Ethernet Raid device. Well, that's because the LaCie Ethernet Raid Device is a slow pig.

After connecting my Mac Book Pro and my Mac Pro to the switch, I started offloading data to the Mac Pro.

Sustained throughput was 320 megabits per second with long bursts up to 720 megabits per second. At this point, the hard drive on the Macbook Pro was the bottleneck. Normally, I don't care for D-link products, but this little switch is quite the gem.

I've also noticed no noise from the unit, even when transferring large amounts of data at near wire speed.

Great switch. [Posted on 2008-02-21]

Received the 5 volt version B2 from amazon a few days ago. It's dead quiet, great throughput. Not much else to say about it- works as advertised. Highly recommended.

Pretty Good [Posted on 2008-03-28]
This switch is a very good product. The plug and play feature requires relatively no installation. Just a wall outlet and a few CAT5 cables. The transformer is relatively small, and it is a sideways type so no other nearby outlets are covered as a result. As for performance, I hardly notice any drop in speed from splitting the network out this way.

Nothing fancy, it just works. [Posted on 2008-04-25]
Works great with a Linksys gigabit router. Power it up, plug in the network and you are done. You can't ask for anything more than that.
