Fantastic [Posted on 2004-12-08] I am pleasantly surprised that these really work very well!
I connected two rooms that are not even on the same circuit (though same circuit breaker box). I just plugged them in and the setup was complete. D-Link also did a good job by making the ethernet port completely auto-sensing so you dont even have to figure out whether to use a cross-over cable or not.
Thanks to this unit I was able to move the wireless router to a place that gives far better coverage.
Awesome !!! [Posted on 2005-01-16] DHP100 is simply awesome. Plugged one into my router the other into my 2nd computer. It was running in 2 minutes. Did not even have to configure the system. Internet/networking works as well as it does with my other computers using Cat5 cable. I would highly recommend this product. I went with this vs wireless as I have a large house and was pretty sure there would be bad spots with the wireless. Simply awesome.
If your having problems check the polarity of your outlets [Posted on 2005-02-24] I've played around with a few homeplug type products. The D-Link is generaly above average, but maybe not as solid as the Netgear product.
When I received the product I had mixed results depending on which outlet in my house it was plugged into. Turns out that the "problem" outlets had the wire connections reversed, so the polarity was wrong. Once the problem was corrected these plugs worked as well as the rest in my house (If you don't know what you doing get a qualified electrician to check and fix the outlet.)
DHP-100 [Posted on 2005-06-29] I bought a couple of these. One of the two died on me the first hour of attempted use. Amazon was kind enough to send me another, but as it is, I never got them to work for me. And I checked the polarity of my outlets, they were fine. Tech support from D-Link must have taken lessons from David Spade in the credit card commercial. Sure, they try to help you out, but you can forget getting them to take them back. No. No. No. They'll use any excuse they can think of...they went through two or three with me.
I advise you to avoid this product.
Does the job, just slow [Posted on 2005-07-19] I was having troubles with my WiFi (interferance), so this was an attempt at a new solution. With 802.11G, I was getting ~30 Mbps (~3.8 MBps) in my living room when there was no interferance (ie my cordless phone / microwave / the neighbors WiFi / etc) and more-often-then-not I would get nothing with interferance (would commonly drop packets). After getting this setup, and I only get ~9 Mbps (1.1 MBps). While this does work well for internet (4.0 Mbps / 512 KBps), I pull a lot of data from my fileserver (which is also my PVR) so I still use WiFi a lot.
In regards to setup and actual functionality, this works fairly well. I initilly tried setting this up on a power strip, but that obviously didn't work. Once I got that taken care of, everything else worked fine. (Amazing what you can find by RTFM).
