Customer Reviews:

A fun, artfull time. [Posted on 2007-08-01]
The fight animations pleased me most when I first played this game. You can tell your character flows through various stances by the arm movements. The sword strikes are solid, as is all the quarterstaff flourishes and combos. Shooting arrows is realistic, and who wouldn't like to form a fireball between your hands and throw it at stuff? The variety of weapons and approaches to this game make it replayable. The fun fighting alone makes it replayable. The art department did a very good job with this game. Nothing seems out of place, all the characters are realistically (within a fantasy world) represented with style.
If you find any part of the game too easy (or too hard), just alter your playing style for more challange. You can find some items that turn the battles to your favor..too much so in my opinion. But then I prefer drawing the battles out as long as they can last. Though kicking orcs into bonfires, off cliffs, and onto spikes is a fun way to end things quickly. This is also one first person type fantasy game where you can play as an exclusive magic user with real success.
I played this game on my laptop..2 GHZ, 1 gig ram, ati xpress 200m. The first time, i set the directx level to 8 for smooth gameplay. But the second time, i left the directx level to 9, and it played just as smoothly. No noticeable stutters or jerks. (i do have the resolution set to 800X600, though). Make sure to download the 2 patches and install them in order. I mention this so if you have a better machine than mine, you know it will treat you well.(just close all your other programs, and defragment your harddrive.
This game takes advantage of all the lighting, presence, and physics the source engine has to offer.

IF U HAVE A 360 WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT ON THAT!! [Posted on 2007-08-23]
this game is lots of fun with amazing graphics cool weapons and brutal deaths, however unless u have a nice computer(luckily mine is) u will have some trouble with the framerate, so if u have a 360 wait for the 360 release which is coming soon!!.

Unfortunatly there IS an end to my patience [Posted on 2007-08-26]
I saw it on sale for 15.00--I could not refuse.

Beautiful maps, interesting interactive environment and fight options with a "whats going to happen next" kept me going. It was fun throwing a crate at an Orc, knocking him off a steep ledge, to join his just tossed victim in the vast chasm below. or set fire to a narrow path and all the ornery guards who come running through are suddenly aflame. Or just kick the ghoul into the spiky wall rack the inhabitants are so fond of decorating this world with and it adds up to what could have been a lot of fun.

However, restarting the computer due to freezes or stutter locks every 15 to 20 minutes is very UNFUN. And so are the boss monsters which take at least three computer restarts to defeat.

After pouring arrows into one of the boss monsters, using up all my mana potions ( I horded 17) blasting fireballs at it, I used the cheat mode, turned GOD on and waded it with staves and swords for another computer restart or two. It still did not die.

I quit.

I probably could keep at it for another hour, but my ferret needs feeding.

And it is looking like such a nice day outside.

I might have finished this game, as parts are indeed fun--spells to have an enemy join you and watch them fight until the mob is only one guy and then finish him; or plant a few fire mines and watch the spiders burn.

It could have been a contender--lets have less crashes and more ways to kill boss monsters!

Dont buy it used [Posted on 2007-09-16]
I purchased this game used to added to my steam account, but what I found out after typing the key is that it has been used, omg! the original owner didn't reset the key on steam, another useless game.

Beauty in Individuality [Posted on 2008-01-02]
When I fist started Dark Messiah I had already played the demo, so I had a small idea of what was to come. Though as all demos go, you never really do see the full extent of what it is really made of.
One of the first things you learn about your character is you are a sturdy and competent young apprentice lead to many locations by people you meet on your travels along one of the most beautiful plot lines I have ever seen, very similar to Half Life2 (not that there are aliens in it or anything). In the start of things you immediately begin killing and delving into the elaborate wonder which is a small part of the Might & Magic realm. There are many character and plot twists that had me way more excited than I should have been but hey, why not? Why spend money if you don't let yourself be effected?
Characters, monsters, weapons, it is all amazingly well done. You have choices that affect the balance and outcome of several parts of the story. Everything is about good or evil. You choose which you wish to be, not quite like Fable. The skill system is pretty simple which is good because it allows you to get more into the action. I would have to say though, for a game that is completely 1st person, this is the best for using weapons, the movements are smooth and well thought out. It is a lot of fun to laugh at the zombies when you shoot pieces of their body parts off with an electrical damage bow.
Anyway, though it is very sad when you eventually finish, you are very satisfied after having played. This game is good for people who have quick reaction times if you want to make things more exciting. There are lots of different creatures, a few points in the game to rest and keep from having a heart attack, and an amazingly new variety of ways to dispatch your enemies.
