Great game for all type of gamers [Posted on 2006-04-14] It is gritty and dark story about a Bronson/Eastwood like cop. It is action game , there is shooting (best solved problem of PS2 having no mouse to move crosshair ), fist figting and minigames. You can turn blood off, and there is plenty of challenge although I played and completed on Rookie Level.
Some bosses are too easy, some I'd never beat without reading FAQ, and some levels, like ninth , are TOO long compared to the ones that follow.
And yeah, if you think it is repetitive, try Quake 4 to see what is repetitive.
It is ridiculous to compare this game to Jak and Daxter, but I got so much fun outta both, and they left very high impression on me.
Great game that deserves some credit. [Posted on 2006-09-29]
I won't write a lengthy review, as many others on here have said enough. However, I would like to inject my own thoughts, as I enjoyed this game immensely. Sure, It may be a Max Payne spinoff, ripoff,or whatever you may label it, but it does have some unique qualities of it's own. I played Max payne one and two, and both games have some striking similarities. Both Max and Jack are cops who have lost loved ones to horrific violence, and are intent on revenge and retribution, no matter what it takes. Heck, the two even resemble each other physically. One thing Max did not have, was Shadow, the faithful k9.
I just finished this game a few days ago, and I'll be honest..for me, this was one of the most challenging games I have played for a while. The bosses in this game are the toughest I have faced so far, and I spent many nights tossing my controller down in frustration. Overall, if you are into the noir, this is for you. Despite my liking this game, it's not without it's flaws
Pros:
Good graphics
Nice array of weapons
great storyline
Excellent controls
Cons:
Mini-games..This is a true waste of time, especially the lifting part. I'm surprised i did not damage my controller buttons, lol.
Awkward camera angles on some levels.
Other than that, I highly suggest this game, as it's super cheap now. Enjoy!
Great Action And Story [Posted on 2007-07-06] I've never really felt the minigames were a detriment to the game itself but I can see the point about them disrupting the flow of the action. I think in most cases though they really helped the story along and that's a big plus for this game. I really appreciate when games care about the story and this one really does with Chris Bruno (Sheriff Bannerman on USA's "The Dead Zone") doing a hell of a job narrating the story as Jack Slate. And the action is perfect: fast and fun. You'll never get tired of the disarms or going into bullet time to take out a room full of heavily armed thugs.
TRASH [Posted on 2007-07-29] If you have no values in life other than yourself this game is for you. I got rid of it as I did not want my dog to get any ideas. Cross the street and find a better game.
One of the worst games ever created [Posted on 2007-09-28] I remember buying this game and thinking, "this is going to be another cool shooting game, kinda like Max Payne." Well, I was completely wrong on both accounts. This game is terrible, and it is NOTHING like Max Payne. The graphics are some of the worst I have ever seen in a video game, even for the time period that this game came out in. The controls are also some of the worst I have ever encountered. The worst part of this game, however, is the plot/gameplay. In short - there is no plot. This guy just runs around killing things while his stupid pet does dumb tricks that a real dog would never do.
This game is a cheap knockoff of Max Payne, and it performs poorly. I would recommend sticking your head in the toilet over buying this game. At least you can take a shower afterwards.
