Solid [Posted on 2005-02-16] The speakers are pretty excellent. Five speaker system works well to produce a great surround sound effect. You can get pretty ridiculous volume too, more than you would ever need. For the price you pay, a superb system.
Not the best [Posted on 2005-02-17] After buying these speakers for the style and figuring they had to be good, I'm very dissapointed. I sent them back the next day because the front left and rear left speakers would distort at 75% volume. I tried adjusting my volume settings, but after never having a problem with Creative speakers, I just decided to go back to them. A set of Creative Labs speakers at half the price of these has stronger clearer bass and overall sound. They also will never distort at any volume. Also, most people are under the impression that these speakers are manufactured by Altec Lansing and carry the Dell name. They are in fact manufactured by Samsung. A solidly built, but poorly executed set of speakers.
Nothing Special [Posted on 2006-03-15] I've been using these speakers for a month now. I have them hooked up to my laptop using the soundblaster audigy 2zs notebook. They sound like what you'd expect from multimedia speakers. The satellites lack detail, and the bass can't get anywhere near 40hz. These speakers do benefit from the fact that they are 5.1, therefore they are better than 2.1 when watching dvds, and they look pretty good when paired with a dell lcd. I know that I did mention that these are hooked up to a laptop, but I have a dell 2405 24" lcd sitting right behind my laptop with the center speaker hooked up to it.
Look elsewhere for your PC speaker needs! [Posted on 2007-05-01] I absolutely never write reviews on Amazon so it should say something that these speakers have driven me to write this up. In short, look elsewhere for your PC speaker needs! Have a song you like to crank up the volume on ? Forget it! These speakers will distort the sound every time and make you regret your decision to go with the 5650s. These have a cool look, feel solid, and the center channel neatly clicks into the Dell monitor (though it likes to slip out frequently) but - really - who cares when they just sound so darn awful? But, hey, if you like to listen to everything on the '1' volume setting - these are for you !!
Absolutely terrible. [Posted on 2008-07-21] Why have rear speakers when nothing ever comes out of them? Regardless of what I'm listening to, be it a DVD movie, music, or an on-line video, sound only comes out the front speakers. And yes, I have "5.1 surround sound speakers" selected in the control panel.
I think the only sound that actually comes out of all five speakers is the Windows shutdown sound. Whoopee. I can hardly contain my excitement.
