Great First Person Shooter [Posted on 2007-05-16] This is a great, inexpensive first person shooter. The online community is pretty substantial, and you can always find a fun, or competative online game.
Graphics Better But Disappointing in Other Areas [Posted on 2007-06-02] This is the game that put Novaworld on the map. Unlike previous versions of the DF series, BHD has a different graphics engine. It was highly popular for the first 2 years. Hundreds of servers and thousands of people played the game including myself. Let's start with the good things first, weapons are very powerful, and there is a wide variety to choose from. Game formats are good it has TKOTH, where a team camps in an area to win the game, Razorball is knives only, the team the scores the most flags wins. TDM, the team the kills the other team the most wins. And so on. PSPs was an improvement from previous versions. Now the bad parts. Firstly, stock maps are uneven. You have for example Culture Clash A and B.
The imbalanced maps which also included some custom maps gave an advantage to one team over the other. Secondly, the lack of variety of buildings. In the map editor, there are clumps of buildings. It makes even custom maps look similar. These buildings should have been broken apart for better placement by the map maker. Third, left and right leans, rolling on the ground. You have a strong side lean and a weaker one. It gives you the impression of unrealistic angles, thus rewards those who spray or cut more often more success of hitting their target. For example you see a guy rolling on the ground, he can still knife you while rolling over which is an impossible angle.
Fourthly, the problem of glitching. While moving backwards creates a glitch for the knifer to have a longer reach than moving forward. Some servers tried to in force a rule of not moving backwards but some do not play by the rules causing name calling among players. Shooting into objects like a building is also a glitch. If your player gets close enough to the object, the gun or knife goes right through the object killing the intended target which can't see you. A major flaw in the game. Anyway, the game is dying as far as online gaming, but if you want a change in pace, the game might be worth to buy for it's missions and such. You might find some fun place to play online, but generally don't expect it to last...I believe the DF series in general is dying, Novaworld lost it's touch with the hardcore players over the years by releasing too many versions in one year after the success of BHD. Also the style of play has slowed down a lot unlike previous games.
Stupid game - memorize and win [Posted on 2007-06-18] If you like to play games where you know where the enemy is and can turn a corner and shoot to kill - this is the game for you. The format remains exactly the same every time. Your "team" does nothing but get in your way. I liked a couple of the early delta force games but this one SUCKS.
DFBHD reveiw. [Posted on 2007-09-03] My boys are always on the computer playing the game and it is very entense. It give them hand and eye challenges and really makes them think. I have played some on the game and find it fun and challengeing as well.
A Very Good Game! [Posted on 2008-11-18] "Delta Force: Black Hawk Down," while it may seem like it is, is not based either on the book or the film. The developers did ask Mark Bowden, the author of the book, to use his description of Mogadishu for the game but he respectfully declined, wanting to respect the nineteen soldiers who fell there. This is a powerful and sometimes moving game and should be played by anyone who loves our Armed Forces and the men and women serving in them.
Pros:
Decent Graphics (the graphics are good but not mind-blowing, but I didn't buy this game to get jaw-dropping graphics, I bought it because I love the military and also Delta Force)
Historical Plot (most of the missions you are sent on are based on real life events, but the developers made up a few, although you can't tell which ones actually happened and which ones didn't, they blend so well)
Good AI (while not the best, the artificial intelligence of your foes and of your team mates are pretty good, but there are bugs: there's one instance where your team of Deltas are escorting freed hostages through a narrow alley and RPG gunners are on the rooftops. If you don't take them out, they'll launch their rockets and blow your men to pieces and the Deltas just stand there, yelling at you to help them!)
Fun Missions (the missions are fun and sobering at the same time, as you can see what these Deltas and Rangers went through back in '93; my favorites are the helo missions, where you man a M134 mini-gun in a Black Hawk, and the HMMWV missions, where you man a .50 cal on top of a Humvee)
High Level of Detail (the guns' level of detail is pretty good and so are the vehicles, although your team members' and your enemies' faces don't have much variety)
Cons:
Too Short (could have been expanded but oh well...)
Not the Best AI (see above)
Not the Best Graphics (see above)
Not the Best Level of Detail (see above)
This is a really good game that highlights our forces' operations in Somalia back in the early nineties. Pick it up and appreciate what our soldiers do for their country every day!
