Don't change your regular routine [Posted on 2008-11-29]
I normally use Leslie Sanson's "Walk Away the Pounds" for about 30 minutes of light-moderate exercise. When I got pregnant, I thought it might be a good idea to switch to a workout specifically geared towards pregnancy. While it's certainly worth assessing your current workout to make sure it is safe, this one wasn't worth the money. I went back to "Walk Away the Pounds" after one workout with this video! They are very similar workouts in terms of length and muscle groups, but I find that Austin doesn't give very good instruction as to what she's doing - she just changes to a new routine all of a sudden and you're left trying to figure out the steps. If you already have a good active walking workout, continue doing that. If you're looking to add a good pregnancy-specific exercise routine, I really enjoyed the Tracey Mallett "3 in 1 Pregnancy Workout" as she incorporates pilates and yoga, but goes over what limitations you want to use if you're expecting.
Happy exercising!

A Little Perky For My Taste [Posted on 2008-12-10]
Personally, I found the workout a bit too perky/happy and simple. I was much better off creating my own workout that was similar to the yoga, walking, and weight lifting I was doing before I got pregnant. As an ex-dancer, I can say that I was in great shape pre-pregnancy, and have stayed in great shape (only gaining 30 lbs, and i only look preggo from the profile). If you're intermediate/advanced level I'd suggest modifying your current regime (ex. I added swimming to my program and cut back on the walking because it was making my knees ache too much), but if you're a beginner or have been on bedrest or something this is probably a great choice for you... If you can handle Denise's overly positive attitude... I know exercise gives you endorphins, but jeez...

Good for the third trimester. [Posted on 2008-12-23]
I would not buy this for working out in the first or second trimester. It is a bit wimpy and way too easy. However I will use it in the third trimester when its harder to move.

good video  [Posted on 2008-12-28]
This is my first Denise Austin video. Now I understand what people are talking about when they describe Denise as annoying! Chipper, I can take, but she is slightly unsettling. As another reviewer commented, she really does stare unblinkingly into the camera and talks non-stop. Anyway, if you can get past her personality it is not a bad video. The cuing could definitely use improvement and initially I was a little frustrated. But as I continue to use the video I have learned to anticipate and adjust.
The cardio part is 20 minutes long. I would probably fall under the 'beginner' classification since I am a sporadic on and off exerciser. I found the cardio just right, doable and not have me panting for breath or wondering if my core body temp is more than 102 deg F. I feel good after doing it. I am worried about safety and would rather do too little than too much. I am not sure how much exercise is too much during pregnancy..However, since I am able to do these exercises comfortably, advanced exercisers might feel this video is not challenging enough. The toning exercises are good, but could use more reps.
To summarize, decent low to medium intensity exercises which appear to be safe, would appeal to beginners and people worried about safety of exercising during pregnancy, feels good after doing the exercises, annoying host.

Very Good And Well Thought Out Workouts [Posted on 2008-12-31]
I have done some working out prior to becoming pregnant and now that I that I am pregnant, I wanted to find some exercises that I could do. I have a couple of Denise's other DVDs and though I can see why sometimes she may not be everyone's cup of tea, I like her approach on most days.

Right now I am in my first trimester so I am working with those sections and I am enjoying them. To me the length is just right and shows concern for making sure things are done properly during pregnancy, so to the extent that some think it is slow or not long enough, to me it seems more an issue of makig sure the target audience is safe.

I feel like I am getting a good workout with safe cardio which is what I want.
